Jannik Sinner vs Tristan Schoolkate prediction, betting tips & odds, head-to-head, preview: Australian Open 2025
Jannik Sinner won his first round in straight sets.
First seed Jannik Sinner is set to take on local boy Tristan Schoolkate in the men’s singles second round of the Australian Open 2025.
The Italian began his title defence strongly, with a straight sets victory against World Number #34 Nicolas Jarry. He had to work hard though, having to play tiebreakers in each of the first two sets against the veteran. Sinner eventually showcased his class, winning the match 7-6(2) 7-6(5) 6-1.
On the other hand, local boy Tristan Schoolkate staged an upset, much to the glee of the crowd, defeating World Number #58 Taro Daniel 6-7 (8) 7-6 (4) 6-1 6-4. He would need all the support he can get, when he goes up against the two-time Grand Slam winner on Thursday.

Preview
The year 2024 is one which announced the arrival of Sinner among the big boys. While he was already a much-followed player due to the immense potential shown by him, Sinner finally managed to convert that into results, winning the Australian Open and the US Open.
He also had a dream end to the year. The 23-year-old, who was the youngest man ever to win both hard-court majors in the same year, then ended as the runner-up in the China Open, before winning the Shanghai Masters. Sinner, then followed it up by winning the season’s ATP Finals in Turin, Italy, without dropping a single set.
The Italian then defeated Netherlands’ Tallon Griekspoor in the Davis Cup final, to help his nation win its second consecutive title. He not only finished as the World Number #1 at the end of the year but also ensured that he didn’t suffer a single straight set in the entire duration.

After a straight set victory in the first round, here at Melbourne Park, Sinner will be up against World Number #173 Tristan Schoolkate. Having entered the tournament as a wildcard, he crossed the first round of the Australian Open for the first time.
Last year, the 23-year-old won his first Challenger singles trophy—the Guangzhou International Challenger. As a result, he entered the top 200 for the first time. He then achieved his first ever victory in the main draw of a Slam, defeating, interestingly, Daniel in the first round of the US Open 2024.

Match prediction
Sinner is one of the favourites to win the title this year. The World Number #1 is known to be one of the hardest hitters on the circuit. He has most qualities of an ideal player —having an equally good backhand and forehand, strong lateral movement and a very good first serve. His elegance and calm demeanor have meant that he has drawn comparisons with Swiss great Roger Federer.
The Italian will be playing Schoolkate for the first time. While a potentially packed Rod Laver Arena will be rooting for the home boy, he would need something special to even challenge a player of Sinner’s calibre.
Result: Jannik Sinner to win in straight sets.
