Novak Djokovic backs Jannik Sinner, Carlos Alcaraz to break his records

The King of Melbourne Novak Djokovic backs Sinner-Alcaraz to set new milestones.
In a candid interview with GQ Magazine, Novak Djokovic talks about his eventual retirement, and his planned schedule for the 2025 season, as the three-way tussle with Carlos Alcaraz and Jannik Sinner as an elder statesman of the sport.
In a theoretical schedule for the 2025 season, the Serbian says he will turn up for more than the four Grand Slams and the Davis Cup. His tennis calendar will include a warm-up tournament before the Grand Slams, focusing on clay. The mandatory ATP Masters 1000, ATP 500, and ATP 250 events are no longer a priority for Djokovic this season. The Serb will be taking the loss in ranking points for skipping those events in his stride.

The legend also touched on the legacy he leaves behind in the form of his milestones and records. For a player who gatecrashed the party of two – Roger Federer and Rafael Nadal, he has done well for himself. Having won 24 Grand Slams, Djokovic still feels he has a few more in the tank. His haul includes ten Australian Open titles, seven at Wimbledon, four at the US Open and three at the French Open.
Even as he targets a record-extending 11th Australian Open title that will land Djokovic an unprecedented 25th Grand Slam trophy, he touches on who will take over the mantle as the potential GOAT of tennis. For the accolade, he nominates Alcaraz and Sinner, who together claimed all four majors in 2024, sharing the spoils equally.
Quoting Novak Djokovic in his interview with GQ Magazine, “People say my records will never be broken. I doubt that. Carlos Alcaraz may already be the next man up. Even Jannik Sinner. If they take care of the body, if they do things properly, focus on longevity, focus on the long term, they can do.”
At the age of just 21, Alcaraz has got an edge in this matter. The Spaniard already has four Grand Slam trophies in his cabinet. Sinner, who finished the 2024 season with eight titles, has two. Sinner, at 23, has some catching up to do with Alcaraz in the quest for Grand Slam trophies.
It won’t be easy pickings for the Italian against the Spaniard, who has defeated Sinner on all three occasions in the 2024 season. The Australian Open 2025 will be but one more chapter in their already intense rivalry.
While Djokovic may face an uphill task as he aims to collect the Norman Brooks Challenge Cup for another year, doing so will make him the only player, man or woman, to achieve the feat. What is clear is he will be up against immense odds to make that happen.
