After two days of outrageous tennis in the quarter-finals, the attention now shifts to the semi-finals, where the stakes could not be higher.

Men’s Singles

After not winning a Grand Slam title for so long, Alexander Zverev could finish the 2026 calendar year with two Majors under his belt. He is the favourite to win his maiden US Open title, following Carlos Alcaraz’s defeat.

Zverev’s campaign began with back-to-back five-set matches. After the early challenge, the German has managed to enjoy a smooth ride, prevailing in straight sets.

The top seed possesses a formidable first serve and has the groundstrokes to rattle his opponents. He takes on Karen Khachanov in the semi-final, with the Russian entering the final four as the least favoured of the four semi-finalists according to the odds.

Featuring in his third Grand Slam semi-final, Khachanov will have to punch above his weight if he were to outlast the top seed.

Due to injuries and poor recent form, he lost his place in the ATP top-30, but has had an excellent last two weeks at the US Open, with wins over Felix Auger Aliassime, Learner Tien and Alexander Blockx.

The other semi-final features an all-American lineup. The home country has not seen a male Grand Slam champion since Andy Roddick in 2003, and will be eager to end the jinx.

Ben Shelton arrives after his best performance ever, outlasting reigning champion Carlos Alcaraz in one of the best matches of the year.

It will now be important for the American to move past the victory and retain his focus on the ultimate prize. He leads the head-to-head against Frances Tiafoe by 3-1.

Tiafoe too won a five-set epic against all odds, as he found himself two sets and a break down, before turning the tables against Alex Michelsen in the quarter-final.

Either way, the 146th edition will witness the crowning of a first-time US Open champion in New York.

Women’s Singles

For the first time since 1975, all four top seeds in the women’s field reached the semi-finals of the US Open.

The remarkable consistency and determination shown by the top four have been incredible to watch, with this current generation of WTA players proving to be among the most competitive and high-quality in recent years.

Two-time defending champion Aryna Sabalenka will arrive with purpose after losing her World No. 1 ranking to Elena Rybakina, thereby ending her 99-week reign at the top.

She survived a huge scare against Linda Noskova, and will now take on Jessica Pegula for the third straight year in New York.

Pegula has been far from her best so far in Flushing Meadows, and staged another comeback from a set down in her previous quarter-final against Emma Navarro.

The American will have the support of the crowd, and will take confidence from her win over Sabalenka when they met in Berlin, a few months back.

Newly crowned World No. 1 Elena Rybakina is one of the best players to bet on, as she seems to be in remarkable form, yet she is placed third on the odds list.

The Kazakh had never progressed beyond the Round of 16 at the US Open, but is now two wins away from winning it all.

She had to fight hard against Qinwen Zheng in her previous match, but prevailed in the third set, thanks to her tremendous serving and ruthless return game.

Rybakina meets Coco Gauff in the evening fixture, with the American arriving after a shocking quarter-final match yesterday against Mirra Andreeva.

Both players displayed a below-par performance. Gauff had a horrid start, unable to land her serves, and simply could not find her forehands either. The American played well in patches in the second and third set, but she was helped by Andreeva, who completely lost her composure towards the end.
