Carlos Alcaraz crushed Sinner to claim his maiden Rome title.

A clay set comprises winning the French Open in addition to the three clay Masters 1000 competitions, including the Monte Carlo Masters, Madrid Open and Italian Open. On Sunday, Carlos Alcaraz defeated Jannik Sinner in the final of the Italian Open 2025 event to complete the set. The 22-year-old did so in convincing fashion, to stun the home crowd.

Alcaraz and Sinner battled through a closely fought first set, with both holding serve steadily. Sinner earned two break points in the twelfth game but couldn’t convert, and the Spaniard capitalized on the missed opportunity by winning the tie-break.

The second set was a one-sided affair, as Alcaraz completed the demolition job dropping just one game on his route to glory. Earlier this year, the Spaniard triumphed in Monte Carlo, staging a tremendous comeback from a set down to beat Lorenzo Musetti.

The Spaniard lifted his first clay Masters 1000 trophy back in 2022, at the Madrid Open. Ranked seventh back then, Alcaraz announced himself to the world in style, as he beat the formidable trio of Rafael Nadal in the quarter-finals, Novak Djokovic in the semi-finals and finally Alexander Zverev in the finale.

He successfully defended his crown next year, as he had to contend with an easier draw, capping off with a three set victory over Jan-Lennard Struff.

However, his biggest title triumph on clay came at the 2024 Roland Garros tournament, as Alcaraz crushed Felix Auger-Aliassime and Stefanos Tsitsipas in the initial rounds, before outlasting Jannik Sinner and Alexander Zverev in consecutive five-setter contests.

Alcaraz returns to the French Open this year aiming to defend his crown. Ranked No #2, he enters as the player to beat in Paris, poised to further cement his legacy as one of the greatest clay-court players of all time.
