Carlos Alcaraz is a two-time champion at Barcelona.

Carlos Alcaraz remains on track for a third title at the Real Club de Tenis Barcelona. The Spaniard is playing on home turf and has a 12-0 winning streak since his only loss to Frances Tiafoe in 2021.

As it stands, Alcaraz is 2210 points ahead of Jannik Sinner, with only the Madrid Open remaining before the Italian returns to the ATP Tour. Winning the Monte Carlo Masters last week helped the Spaniard close the gap, and victory in Barcelona has reduced it further.

Alcaraz quelled a spirited challenge from American qualifier Ethan Quinn (6-2, 7-6(6)) in the opening round. He defeated another qualifier, Laslo Djere of Serbia, in the Round of 16. The World No. 2 spent just 71 minutes for the 6-2, 6-4 victory over Djere to set up a second-season meeting with Alex de Minaur.

Alcaraz fell back 2-4 in the second set but clawed his way back by breaking the Serbian’s serve in the seventh and ninth games of the second set.

Fifth seed De Minaur eased into the last eight with a flawless 6-1, 6-2 win over Jacob Fearnley in just over 60 minutes to book a quarter-final spot for the third time. The Australian got the better of Argentine Tomas Martin Etcheverry, 6-4, 6-4, before registering his fifth clay-court win of the season against Fearnley.

Alcaraz and De Minaur are tied at 22 wins each in 2025 ahead of their fourth tour-level meeting, which the Spaniard leads 3-0.

Preview

Carlos Alcaraz and Alex de Minaur must pick up where they left off. Their most recent meeting was in the final of the Rotterdam Open 2025, where Alcaraz won 6-4, 3-6, 6-2.

The coming match will serve as a tie-breaker with both players on 22 wins this season. Alex de Minaur will be a worthy challenger to the top seed, as two of his three games have gone the distance. Should Alcaraz move past De Minaur, a title run in Barcelona should be within reach.

If Alex de Minaur emerges as the winner from their face-off, he will find himself in the Barcelona Open semi-final for the second time. Should De Minaur do one better and reach the title round, a place in the top five could come calling.

Match Prediction

Carlos Alcaraz’s continued dominance over Alex de Minaur points to another favourable result over the Australian. While De Minaur has troubled Alcaraz in the past, the Spaniard will hold all the cards going into their quarter-final face-off.

De Minaur’s speed and counterpunching abilities will be against Alcaraz’s solid baseline play and formidable forehand. Expect Alcaraz to edge De Minaur throughout two tight sets, with the Australian’s resilience making for a compelling contest.

Result: Alcaraz will win in straight sets.
