Dzumhur overcame Mattia Bellucci, 7-6(7), 7-6(5), to set up a third career meeting with Alcaraz. The second-seeded Alcaraz got the better of Dzumhur at Roland Garros earlier this year in the third round. It is their only main-tour meeting, with their previous encounter taking place in 2020 at a Challenger event in Barcelona, also won by Alcaraz.

The fixture against the Bosnian will serve as a good practice match for Alcaraz and prepare him for the challenges in the later rounds. The draw has been kind to the Spaniard, with his first real test unlikely to emerge until the semi-finals in the form of either Ben Shelton or Karen Khachanov. Alexander Zverev, the 2021 champion, is also a potential semi-final rival for the No. 2 seed.
