Carlos Alcaraz vs Hamad Medjedovic prediction, betting tips & odds, head-to-head, preview: Cincinnati Open 2025

Hamad Medjedovic heads into a third-round clash against Carlos Alcaraz without dropping a set.

Carlos Alcaraz and Hamad Medjedovic are headed for their maiden clash on the ATP Tour at Cincinnati. The two competitors advanced to the third round in contrasting styles. Medjedovic is yet to drop a set after his second-round win over Tallon Griekspoor, 6-4, 7-6(3) in one hour and 40 minutes.

On Friday, the 22-year-old Serbian breezed past Aleksandar Kovacevic, 6-2, 6-3 in just 62 minutes in his debut at the ATP 1000 event. Medjedovic struck 33 winners and 14 aces en route to his victory over Griekspoor to go 1-0 up in their first tour-level clash.

Alcaraz was quick off the blocks against Bosnian Damir Dzumhur in their second-round match to take a one-set lead in 28 minutes. Dzumhur had a strong reply to the World No. 2, breaking the Spaniard twice in the second set to force a decider.

The World No. 2 Alcaraz eventually prevailed 6-1, 2-6, 6-3 in their second head-to-head of the season after Roland Garros. In keeping with recent results, it took an hour and 40 minutes for Alcaraz to subdue Dzumhur in a scrappy three-setter.

Preview

Hamad Medjedovic has played calm and composed tennis so far at Cincinnati as he extends his debut run at the ATP 1000 event after a clinical straight-set win over Dutchman Tallon Griekspoor. Alcaraz went briefly off course before rallying to defeat Damir Dzumhur in three sets.

Alcaraz and Medjedovic, both 22, will face off for the first time in the third round at Cincinnati. The Spaniard knows a deep run at the event will give him a leg up in the hunt for the World No. 1 spot. For Medjedovic, it is an opportunity to make the round of 16 at a Masters for the first time.

The winner will be more or less assured of a spot in the last eight, considering the absence of big names in their quarter of the men’s singles draw.

Match Prediction

Carlos Alcaraz survived a rollercoaster match of oscillating fortunes against Damir Dzumhur, even as the Spaniard looks to put the memory of last year’s early exit behind him.

Medjedovic, the winner of the 2023 Next Gen ATP Finals, will look to record the biggest win of his career when he takes on Alcaraz in round three in Ohio.

On a sparsely crowded Court 7 of the Lindner Family Tennis Centre, Medjedovic stayed ahead of his Griekspoor with a solid baseline play and a strong serve–tools he will look to put to good use against the five-time Grand Slam champion and the No. 2 seed.

Alcaraz, with his rock-solid defensive abilities and crafty drop shots, is a handful in any encounter. Medjedovic will bring his high-quality serve and forehand to the fight.

Expect Alcaraz to edge past Medjedovic in a high-intensity showdown, but not without the talented Serb testing the Spaniard.

Result: Alcaraz will win in three sets.
