Bellucci was leading in his opening round match against Juncheng Shang, 7-6(0), 1-6, 6-3, 3-0, when the Chinese player retired, sending his Italian rival into the second round.

Bellucci made his main draw debut in Flushing Meadows last season, which ended in a second-round loss to Christopher O’Connell.

The Spaniard fell short of emulating another Borg record when he lost in the Wimbledon finals. Alcaraz had completed the Channel Slam in the 2024 season and was on track to do the same in 2025. Losing to Sinner in the SW19 finals ended those hopes and snapped Alcaraz’s 5-0 win streak in Grand Slam finals.
