The Chile Open 2025 is part of the ATP 250 calendar and will be played from February 24 to March 2.

In a shocking incident, the Chile Open 2025 witnessed a bizarre situation as play was suspended across courts due to a nationwide power outrage leaving the venue in complete darkness. This incident took place on day two of the main draw matches. The 25th edition of the Chile Open, which is part of the ATP 250 calendar, commenced on February 24 at the heart of Chile in Santiago.

Due to this sudden development, the authorities were forced to cancel three matches for the day including two first-round singles matches and one first-round doubles match, resulting in frustration for both players and fans. were suspended.

The interruptions occurred at Club Deportivo Universidad Católica in Santiago after a sudden nationwide power crisis plunged the Chilean capital into darkness. While the concerned authorities tried to normalize the situation, fans were evicted from the stadium.

On the second day of the 2025 Chile Open, the match between Federico Coria and Marcelo Tomas Barrios Vera was suspended after Coria claimed the first set 6–1. Meanwhile, Francisco Comesana led Felipe Meligeni Alves 7–6(3), 2–1 when their match was halted.

The suspended doubles match featured an all-Brazilian duo, Marcelo Demoliner and Marcelo Zormann, facing the all-Argentine pair of Roman Andres Burruchaga and Thiago Agustin Tirante. At the time of suspension, the Brazilians held the lead, having secured the first set 7–6(8), with the second set yet to commence.

Several notable players, including defending champion and recently crowned winner of ATP 500 Rio Open, Sebastian Baez feature in this event. The Argentine is yet to begin his title defence campaign in Chile.

This isn’t the first instance when the competition has come under spotlight. Last year, local hope Cristian Garin and Argentina’s Thiago Tirante raised their voice and slammed the quality of tennis courts in Chile, calling it “the worst court I have ever played at an ATP level”.
