Coco Gauff vs Belinda Bencic prediction, betting tips & odds, head-to-head, preview: Indian Wells Open 2025

Gauff will face a resurgent and confident Bencic in search of her first title in 2025.

On a day when two of Coco Gauff’s compatriots, Tommy Paul and Marcos Giron, headed for the exit, the American was busy reversing last season’s result against Maria Sakkari. The third-seeded Gauff and fifth-seeded Madison Keys have booked their spots in the round of 16. Gauff defeated Sakkari to earn payback for the semi-final defeat in the 2024 edition with a 7-6(1), 6-2 win in 95 minutes. Keys progressed with a hard-fought 6-2, 6-7(8), 6-4 win against Belgian Elise Mertens.

Belinda Bencic began her 2025 Indian Wells campaign with a breezy 6-1, 6-1 win over German Tatjana Maria in a shade over 60 minutes. Bencic, who won the Abu Dhabi Open last month, defeated the 2025 Qatar Open champion Amanda Anisimova 6-4, 6-7(3), 6-1 to record her first win at the venue since March 2019.

The Swiss wildcard and 2019 semi-finalist then went on to earn an easy 6-1, 6-1 victory over Diana Shnaider in just under 90 minutes. The two previously clashed at the Australian Open 2025, where Gauff won 5-7, 6-2, 6-1 in the fourth-round clash.

Match Details:

  • Tournament: Indian Wells Open 2025 Women’s Singles
  • Round: Fourth round
  • Date: March 12
  • Venue: Indian Wells Tennis Garden, Indian Wells, United States
  • Surface: Hard

Preview:

Gauff and new mom Bencic will resume the rivalry they renewed at the Australian Open 2025. Before Melbourne, they last faced each other at the ATP 500 event in Washington in 2023. The World No. 3 broke her head-to-head deadlock with Bencic in January to go up 3-2.

The pair, looking to advance to the quarter-finals of the WTA 1000 event, find themselves in a fourth-round rematch carried over from Melbourne. Success at Tennis Paradise has eluded Gauff and Bencic despite both players making deep runs in California. Gauff made the semi-final round last season, while Bencic did the same in 2019.

The third-seeded Gauff made heavy weather of her second-round match. Gauff squeaked through to the third round in her face-off against the Japanese player after labouring to a 6-4, 3-6, 7-6(4) win. It was the longest match of Day 4 in the women’s draw.

Unlike Gauff, who has yet to win a title or reach the title round in 2025, Bencic has an Abu Dhabi Open trophy to show for her efforts. The American lost in the second round at Qatar and Dubai in the Middle East swing following a quarter-final loss in the Australian Open in January this year.

Match Prediction

Bencic has had a smooth comeback from her maternity break. Since returning to the WTA Tour in December last season, the Swiss player rose from World No. 913 to breach the top 60 in the WTA rankings. The 28-year-old Bencic is ranked No. 58 courtesy of her title run in Abu Dhabi.

Gauff, in contrast, had a tough opening round against Moyuka Uchijima of Japan. The American served up 21 double faults against Indian Wells debutant Uchijima, with her normally reliable serve letting her down.

Gauff appears to be short on confidence after her loss to Paula Badosa in Melbourne. Bencic will be on a high after winning her first trophy of the season, and a reversal of the close match in Melbourne could be on the cards.

Result: Bencic will win in three sets.
