Top-seeded Kazakhstan host Pakistan in the Davis Cup 2025 World Group 1 playoffs.

Along with the regular events on the ATP calendar that feature Grand Slams and the Masters 1000 events, the 2025 season will also feature the Davis Cup. It is the world’s premier team competition for men. Italy won the previous two editions of the Davis Cup, defeating Australia in 2023 and Netherlands in 2024.   

Among the nations scheduled to participate in the play-offs, Ecuador, Kazakhstan, Romania, and India have met with reasonable success. 

Ecuador made the quarter-finals in 1985, their best-ever result. They defeated hosts Hong Kong in their World Group II tie and will now face Uruguay for a place in the qualifiers. 

Kazakhstan first competed in the World Group stage in 2011, making a quarter-final appearance. They have gone on to reach the last eight on four other occasions in 2013, 2014, 2015 and 2018. Losing to Denmark means the Kazakhs now host Pakistan in the World Group 1 play-offs as they seek a way into the qualifiers.

Romania and India have made the finals on three occasions each, finishing as runners-up each time. Romania did so in 1969, 1971, and 1972. India recorded their appearances in 1966, 1974 and 1987. Only India and Romania have contested more finals without being crowned champions.

India will host Togo in the play-offs after losing their World Group 1 tie to Sweden last season. Romania has advanced to the play-offs with a victory over China in the World Group II tie last September. They will now host Bulgaria in their World Group 1 play-off fixture.

The winners will progress to the World Group 1 ties slated for September 2025. The 13 nations that emerge winners in September will go on to compete in the 2026 Davis Cup Qualifiers, while the losing sides will find themselves relegated to the 2026 World Group 1 play-offs.
