Hello and welcome to Khel Now’s live blog for the Iga Swiatek vs Coco Gauff semifinal match of the French Open 2024. Please wait for the blog to load.

Coco Gauff moved past an error-prone Ons Jabeur 4-6, 6-2, 6-3. The No. 3 seed scripted a comeback win to reach the French Open 2024 semi-final in an hour and 57 minutes.

The 20-year-old American is the sixth U-21 player this century to have multiple semi-final appearances at the French Open. Martina Hingis, Kim Clijsters, Justine Henin, Ana Ivanovic, Maria Sharapova and Iga Swiatek are the other names on the list. Gauff now faces top seed Swiatek for a spot in the final.

World No. 1 Iga Swiatek continued her unbeaten run at Roland-Garros, as she breezed past reigning Wimbledon champion Marketa Vondrousova with a 6-0, 6-2 scoreline after spending only 62 minutes on the court. The Pole is on a 19-match winning streak at Roland-Garros, as she heads into the semi-finals for a 12th head-to-head against Gauff.

Iga Swiatek vs Coco Gauff – Preview

Iga Swiatek is quite at home on the clay courts of Paris, having made her third consecutive semi-final appearance. She is second only to Martina Hingis, who reached the semi-final five consecutive times between 1997 and 2001.

Meanwhile, 20-year-old Gauff will look to pull off a coup and end Swiatek’s long-running domination in their rivalry. Gauff’s come-from-behind win against Jabeur will be a warning shot to Swiatek not to take her rival lightly.

Head-to-Head

Matches – 11

Iga Swiatek – 10

Coco Gauff – 1

Swiatek has dominated Coco Gauff. The American’s only win against the World No. 1 came in Cincinnati in 2023.

Prediction

A win against Gauff will usher Swiatek into her fourth final in six appearances and third on the trot at Roland-Garros. Swiatek leads Gauff 4-0 on clay and each of her wins against the American has come in straight sets. Gauff is yet to solve the Swiatek riddle in the battle between the young guns.

While Naomi Osaka removing Swiatek from the equation would have done Gauff a favour, looks like she will have to complete the job. Gauff will be mindful of the double bagel the Pole handed Anastasia Potapova in the fourth round.

While Gauff has steadied her ship and looks to be in great form, her battle with Swiatek will come down to her mental strength. Beating the Pole on clay could be a tall order for Gauff. Her best chance to win will need the American to be quick off the blocks and take an early lead. Putting pressure on the Pole’s serve may yield some free points.

Going into the semi-final, Swiatek is 43-4 overall and 19-1 on clay in 2024. Gauff is 30-8 overall and 12-3 on clay. Gauff is 9-1 in her last 10 matches, while Swiatek is 10-0 in a similar situation. Coming to their previous five matches, Swiatek trumps Gauff at 4-1.

The Pole has been steamrolling her opponents and Gauff will have to pull a rabbit out of the hat to avoid joining the list of casualties.

Prediction: Swiatek to win in straight sets.
