In April, Grigor Dimitrov returned to the top 10 in the ATP rankings for the first time in over five years.
Bulgaria’s Grigor Dimitrov recently took to social media to say that he has suffered an abductor tear and will miss a few weeks of action.
Grigor Dimitrov was forced to retire from the fourth round at the 2024 Wimbledon Championships after he slipped in the first set against Russia’s Daniil Medvedev.
Thus, after the injury, the Bulgarian tennis star announced that he would miss a few weeks of action because he had torn the abductor in his left leg. He took to Instagram and shared the news to the tennis world.
He wrote, “Hi Everyone-I wanted to give a little update on my end. After some tests and scans my doctor informed me that I have an abductor tear in my left leg I am going to need to take a little time off, but am already starting the rehab. Can’t thank you all enough for the nice notes of support over the past weeks. Looking forward to getting back out there!”

The ongoing season has been brilliant for the 33-year-old. He returned to the top 10 in the ATP rankings for the first time in more than five years in April, after reaching his third career ATP Masters 1000 final in Miami, eventually losing to Jannik Sinner.
In addition, he also completed the career set of Grand Slam quarter-finals by reaching the last eight at the 2024 French Open. Dimitrov was also not going to participate at the upcoming 2024 Paris Olympics.
Apart from Grigor Dimitrov, Australia’s Alex de Minaur also retired from the quarter-finals at the 2024 Wimbledon due to a hip injury. De Minaur’s third round opponent, France’s Lucas Pouille, also withdrew from the tournament. On the women’s front, Madison Keys and Anna Kalinskaya have also suffered from injuries at the grass court major.
