Iga Swiatek won her ninth WTA 1000 title at the 2024 Madrid Open.
WTA World No. 1 Iga Swiatek has stated that she would ask Rafael Nadal for his t-shirt, much like Pedro Cachin, if they ever faced each other.
Last week, Rafael Nadal faced Pedro Cachin in the third round of the 2024 Madrid Open. The contest between the two tennis stars lasted just over three hours, with the 22-time Grand Slam winner eventually winning in three sets.
After the match, the Argentine asked Nadal for something from his belongings. Fulfilling Cachin’s wish, Nadal gave the 29-year-old his t-shirt. Similarly, Iga Swiatek, who won her maiden 2024 Madrid Open on Saturday, has stated that she would also ask the Spaniard for his t-shirt as a memento if they ever faced each other.
She said in a press conference, “Not really, but if I would play against Rafa, for sure I would ask for a T-shirt.” The Pole tennis star has always been a huge fan of Rafael Nadal. In 2022, Swiatek lavished praise on the Spaniard after he defeated Daniil Medvedev to win the final of the Australian Open despite being two sets down initially.
She said about Nadal’s incredible comeback against Medvedev, “After first two sets, where Daniil (Medvedev) played such good tennis. He has some superpowers, just never gives up, physically, tactically, always there on the court. He’s the perfect role model. He’s the greatest of all time in tennis right now.”

The King of Clay is set to participate in the 2024 Rome Masters, which is set to take place from May 9 to 18. Nadal also attended practice at Foro Italico on May 5, Sunday. Meanwhile, Iga Swaitek will also be getting prepared to continue her winning momentum at the Italian Open before the 2024 French Open. The Pole is a two-time Italian Open champion (2021 and 2022).
However, she was forced to retire in the quarterfinals during the last edition against eventual champion Elena Rybakina due to a thigh issue. Iga Swiatek later revealed that she retired from the tournament because she wanted to stay away from any serious injury issues ahead of the 2023 French Open.
