Jannik Sinner vs Ben Shelton prediction, betting tips & odds, head-to-head, preview: Wimbledon 2025

When they last met at Wimbledon, Sinner knocked out the American to reach quarters in 2024.
Jannik Sinner was in an unfamiliar situation on Monday when he was down two sets to nil in the fourth round against Grigor Dimitrov. The Italian top seed is yet to lose a set in the opening three rounds of Wimbledon 2025.
Dimitrov was leading 6-3, 7-5, 2-2 when he was forced to retire from his fifth Grand Slam in a row. An injury to his right pectoral muscle led to his latest withdrawal. It was the first time in the 2025 season that anyone apart from Carlos Alcaraz has taken two sets off Sinner.
It was a lucky break for the World No. 1 Italian, who was facing the prospect of a fourth-round exit. Instead, he moves into his fourth consecutive quarter-final at Wimbledon, where he will face World No. 10 Ben Shelton.
The 22-year-old American will play his maiden SW19 quarter-final after he rallied past Lorenzo Sonego 3-6, 6-1, 7-6(1), 7-5.
Sonego had spent five hours on court for his third-round win over Brandon Nakashima, with four of the five sets going into tiebreaks. Shelton was let down by his serve in the opening set, with only 36% of his serves finding their mark.
The American went on the offensive from the second set to peg Sonego back and book a spot in the last eight at Wimbledon for the first time following the three-hour, five-minute win.

Preview
Jannik Sinner sustained an injury of his own in the opening game of the fourth-round face-off against Grigor Dimitrov. An MRI scan will reveal the extent of the injury and if it will hamper his progress at SW19.
Should the Italian walk out onto the court on Wednesday for his match against big-serving Shelton, the American will have a chance to earn payback for the loss to Sinner last season. Sinner had defeated Shelton in straight sets at Wimbledon 2024 in the fourth round.
The 22-year-old Shelton owns a healthy 73 percent win rate at Grand Slams. His Italian rival received a get out of jail free card following Dimitrov’s retirement and is fortunate to find himself in the last eight.
The American will be well aware of the challenge Sinner poses, given his 5-1 lead in their head-to-head. The tenth-seeded American has not taken a set off Sinner in their last five matches.

Match prediction
Shelton could cause trouble for Jannik Sinner with his left-handed serve and booming forehand. The American will look to put pressure on the Italian’s elbow and steal the advantage when they meet for the seventh time on tour. Even if Sinner is not a 100% on Wednesday, the Italian’s solid baseline game offers him a chance to make a fight of it.
It could be Shelton’s day as he will hope to finally breaks through Sinner’s defences and feed off the crowd support to make his maiden Wimbledon semi-final.
Result: Ben Shelton to win in four sets.
