Jannik Sinner vs Ben Shelton prediction, betting tips & odds, head-to-head, preview: Paris Masters 2025

Sinner and Shelton set to square off in their maiden quarter-final appearance in Paris.

The change of venue from the Accor Arena to the La Defense Arena for the 2025 Paris Masters appears to have brought about a change in fortunes for Jannik Sinner and Ben Shelton. Sinner and Shelton will play their first-ever quarter-final match at the ATP 1000 event.

The Italian World No. 2 eased past Francisco Cerundolo 7-5, 6-1, in just 86 minutes for his second straight win of the season against the Argentine. Sinner is now 4-2 in their head-to-head, having defeated Cerundolo in Rome earlier this year.

Following the straight set victory, Sinner has now reached the quarter-finals at all nine ATP 1000 events. The No. 2 seed fired 20 winners and converted five breakpoint opportunities en route to his 50th tour-level win of the season.

Meanwhile, Shelton progressed to the quarter-finals with a closely fought victory over Andrey Rublev, setting up a third meeting in 2025 with Sinner. The American squandered three set points in the opening set tie-break before finally converting on the fourth.

Shelton then proceeded to take charge in the second set, breaking the Russian’s serve in the sixth and eighth games and moving to 2-0 in his head-to-head against Rublev. The big-serving Shelton fired 15 aces as he hastened to the 97-minute victory and advance to his fourth Masters quarter-final of the season.

The American has been rewarded with a place in the ATP Finals for the first time after his victory over Italian Flavio Cobolli in the opening round. He will make his debut at Turin in November. Shelton follows Taylor Fritz, who has also qualified for Turin.

This makes the upcoming ATP Finals the first time since 2006 that two Americans have qualified, when Andy Roddick and James Blake made the cut.

Preview

Shelton and Sinner have clashed seven times on tour, just as their rivalry nudges past the two-year anniversary. Their first meeting took place in October 2023, in the fourth round of the Shanghai Masters. That was Shelton’s only win against Sinner, with the Italian winning the next six in straight sets.

Yet, it has been a noteworthy season for the American. Shelton broke into the ATP Top 10, advanced to a career-high ranking of No. 6 in August, and won his maiden ATP 1000 title in Canada in the same month.

Now, guaranteed a debut in the season-ending ATP Finals, Shelton will take on Sinner for a place in the semi-finals.

Both players are yet to drop a set in Paris and are slated to cross paths in their eighth head-to-head on tour. Sinner won his fourth title of the season in Vienna last week and is a step closer to regaining the No. 1 position in the ATP Rankings. The Italian will secure the top spot only if he wins the title in Paris.

The draw remains competitive with defending champion Alexander Zverev still in the fray, with the German set to meet 2021 champion Daniil Medvedev in the last eight.

Match Prediction

Shelton will aim to spring a surprise when he faces Sinner on Friday in Paris. A far from ideal 1-6 head-to-head record, with Shelton trailing stares the American in the face. The World No. 7 will require nothing short of a flawless performance if he has to find a way past Sinner.

Shelton will look for lessons in the Cerundolo–Sinner third-round match, where the Argentine broke Sinner twice. If he can repeat the Argentine’s exploits, Shelton will be in with a chance. The 23-year-old will rely on his explosive forehand to win the day and neutralise Sinner’s service game.

The American will also have to keep an eye out for any dip in Sinner’s form, as seen in the previous round and in the finals at Vienna.

Result: Ben Shelton to win in three sets.
