World No. #1, Jannik Sinner is eyeing his first final at Wimbledon.

Jannik Sinner has featured in only four competitions this year and has still managed to reach three finals. It has been nearly a month since the French Open 2025 concluded, and his gut-wrenching defeat to Carlos Alcaraz must still be fresh in the top seed’s mind.

However, he has admitted that such tough losses will help in future, and Wimbledon 2025 is the perfect place to put those learnings into effect. Sinner has reached the semi-finals only once at SW19, but is a completely different player now, and is expected to make the final four, where he is expected to meet Novak Djokovic.

A maiden final berth might see him take on two-time defending winner Alcaraz again, providing Sinner the golden chance to avenge his Paris result. However, unpredictable things happen on grass, and even the top seed will approach the marquee event, match by match.

Match details

  • Tournament: Wimbledon 2025
  • Round: Round 1
  • Date: July 1
  • Venue: Centre Court, All England Club, London, UK
  • Surface: Grass

Preview

A relatively easy start looms for the top seed, as he takes on a fellow-Italian, Luca Nardi. While this is their first ever battle on the ATP tour, these two would know plenty about the other. However, their careers have been contrasting. Already a three-time Grand Slam champion, Sinner has achieved a lot, but Nardi is still a work in progress.

The 21-year-old enters on the back of a qualifier-loss at Eastbourne, an ATP-500 event. He has played a string of challenger events previously, with early exits at the higher-level tournaments. Sinner’s only grass appearance in Halle, ended in the second round at the hands of eventual champion Alexander Bublik.

Match prediction

The writing for this result is on the wall, and it’s pretty much a formality. Nardi has been playing at the challenger level, and has been tasked to face the World No. #1, who is in a league of his own. Despite the Halle outing, Sinner is expected to continue from where he left off in Paris and wrap up things quickly in the opening round.

Result: Jannik Sinner to win in straight sets.
