Casper Ruud lost the opening match for Team Europe in Laver Cup 2024.

The Laver Cup 2024 has started in expected grand fashion Team Europe clashed against Team World. The hardcourts at Uber Arena in Berlin, Germany saw rivals coaching each other on the court. Fans watched as Team Europe’s Carlos Alcaraz and Grigor Dimitrov provided on-court coaching to Casper Ruud. The Norwegian stepped on to the court against Francisco Cerundolo.

While the match saw Cerundolo opening Team World’s account, it also witnessed Dimitrov and Alcaraz stating their insights on Ruud’s performance.

Alcaraz spoke about Ruud starting his rallies from the backhand as Dimitrov stepped in to tell him to surprise his opponent. Dimitrov further encouraged him saying he was playing well and to continue his good form on the court.

Alcaraz had earlier spoken about being on the same team as his rivals and will now hope to support his team with his presence. The young Spaniard spent time on the couch and tried to interact with Ruud while giving him feedback on the opening match. Dimitrov too gave Alcaraz a helping hand to boost Ruud’s confidence.

The Laver Cup has provided Alcaraz a platform to get to know players up close. He had also met Rod Laver, Bjorn Borg and John McEnroe ahead of the fixtures. Team Europe will heavily rely on Alcaraz to perform well in singles and doubles.

Carlos Alcaraz spends time with Roger Federer

The Laver Cup is an event where players from across the globe from different generations gather for an intense three-day battle. It gives a chance for younger players to meet their icons and gain words of wisdom from them. One of the players making their debut in the event is Alcaraz and he has been making the most of his time in Berlin.

Alcaraz spent time with Roger Federer and the pair also donned matching suits. Federer was seen helping the Spaniard with his bow. It was a similar experience for the former player as he had helped Rafael Nadal with his bow in 2019.

Federer will now watch Alcaraz live for the first time in the Laver Cup. He could also guide Alcaraz on the court and even play a few rallies with the world No.3 to help him warm up for the matches. The 21-year-old will play his first match for Team Europe in doubles while pairing up with Alexander Zverev.
