Laver Cup 2025: Casper Ruud joins Carlos Alcaraz in Team Europe; Holger Rune to make debut

The Europe vs World tennis battle in Laver Cup 2025 will be held in San Francisco in September.

The eighth edition of the Laver Cup is set to kick off in September 2025, and the classic tennis battle between Europe and the World is heading to the Chase Center in San Francisco, USA.

A familiar face is returning to Team Europe: Casper Ruud. The Norwegian star, a former World No. 2, was part of last year’s title-winning European squad and has now confirmed his fifth consecutive appearance at the tournament since debuting in 2021.

Ruud joins a powerful European lineup that includes the five-time Grand Slam champion Carlos Alcaraz, German tennis star Alexander Zverev and the 22-year-old Danish talent, Holger Rune making his Laver Cup debut.

On the other side of the net, World No. 4 Taylor Fritz will be leading the charge alongside fellow Americans Ben Shelton and Tommy Paul. The rising Brazilian star, Joao Fonseca will be the new member in the world’s side.

Now, With Ruud’s return and Rune’s arrival, only two spots remain open on each team.

This year marks a shift in leadership too. Yannick Noah, captaining Team Europe, and Andre Agassi, leading Team world, are making their Laver Cup debut as captains.

The Laver Cup is a prestigious men’s team tennis event played on indoor hard courts. It features the clash between only two teams – Team Europe vs Team World. Each team comprises six top players from the respective regions and are led by legendary captains.

Since its inception in 2017, the Laver Cup has become a stage graced by tennis royalty, with legends like Roger Federer, Rafael Nadal, and Novak Djokovic turning it into a modern classic.

Last year, the tournament was held in Germany, where Team Europe lifted the trophy for the fifth time.

Team World, however, has proven strong showing in recent years, winning in 2022 and 2023—both victories featuring Fritz and Shelton. Tommy Paul was part of the 2022 team, while Frances Tiafoe played key roles in both wins for the World’s side. Tiafoe’s participation for 2025 is yet to be confirmed.
