Blanch will face Nadal in the first round on April 24.
American tennis player Darwin Blanch reacted hilariously on social media after he was drawn against 22-time Grand Slam winner Rafael Nadal at the Madrid Open 2024.
Rafael Nadal made his return to clay after a prolonged hiatus at the 2024 Barcelona Open last week. In his first match in the Catalan city, the Spaniard looked sharp as he took down Flavio Cobolli 6-2, 6-3 in straight sets. However, Nadal suffered a disappointing loss in the second round against Australia’s Alex de Minaur.
Nevertheless, the 14-time Roland Garros champion has found his way into the main draw at the 2024 Madrid Open through Protected Ranking (PR) and he’s set to face 16-year-old Darwin Blanch, who’ll be playing his second match on the tour.
After the American tennis player got the news he quickly reacted on social media. He uploaded a story on Snapchat and wrote, “Guys I play Nadal wtf”.
Blanch is currently ranked No. 1028 by the ATP and has received a wildcard bid to play in this week’s Madrid Open. Hence, his match against former World No. 1 Rafael Nadal is expected to be his biggest test.

Nadal is expected to run through Blanch. The five-time Madrid Open champion will face Alex de Minaur in the second round, who defeated him in the Round of 32 at the Barcelona Open last week.
Rafael Nadal is well-known for his on-court prowess and comebacks, especially on the red soil. Hence, at the age of 37, the “King of Clay” can still lift the ATP 1000 event if his health allows. The Madrid Open as well as the upcoming Italian Open will play a major role in Nadal’s route to the 2024 French Open.
