Top five men's singles players with most wins at Wimbledon after turning 30

Novak Djokovic earns his 100th win at Wimbledon with a victory over Miomir Kecmanovic.

At history-soaked Wimbledon, some of tennis‘ greatest players have continued to deliver long after turning 30. Age was a barrier that was broken for these legends, and a second start was made at this iconic venue.

Novak Djokovic and Roger Federer are among the most successful players on the ATP Tour to grace the grass courts major. The duo have taken part in more than a few epic duels against each other at SW19. In all, Djokovic and Federer clashed in four Wimbledon finals, with the Serb leading 3-1.

Life began at 30 for Federer and Djokovic, with a significant chunk of match wins at Wimbledon coming after their 30th birthday. Sharing space with the two leaders are the likes of Tom Okker, Ken Rosewall, and Jimmy Connors, who have all crafted notable post-30 Wimbledon records.

For these legends, crossing the threshold didn’t dim their resolve at the most famous tennis venue in the world. Let’s take a look at the list of top five men’s singles players with the most wins at Wimbledon after turning 30.

Players with most match wins at Wimbledon after turning 30

5. Tom Okker – 23

Tom Okker, like his contemporary, Ken Rosewall, was destined never to win a Wimbledon title. Okker’s best result came in 1978, when he reached the semi-finals of the grass-court Slam, but could not deny Bjorn Borg the win. Okker had lost in three sets to the Swede.

Okker, the Amsterdam native, made the quarter-finals at SW19 in the following season. Once again, he found Borg standing in his way, and his loss to the top seed came in straight sets.

4. Jimmy Connors – 25

When Jimmy Connors defeated Ken Rosewall in the 1974 Wimbledon finals, he denied the Australian the only Grand Slam trophy he had yet to win. Connors thus became the second American to triumph on the famous turf after Stan Smith in 1972. His second and last Wimbledon title came eight years later after a lengthy five-set slugfest against compatriot John McEnroe.

Connors made it to the title round in 1984, but this time McEnroe got the better of him to earn payback for the defeat two years earlier. Connors made a deep run in the 1987 edition when he lost in the semi-final round to Pat Cash. He played at the grass-court major for the final time in 1992, which ended with a first-round loss to Luis Herrera.

3. Ken Rosewall – 25

Ken Rosewall came close to winning the Wimbledon trophy on four different occasions – 1954, 1956, 1970, and 1974, but finished as runner-up each time. Those losses represented four missed opportunities to complete a career Grand Slam. He garnered 25 match wins after his 30th birthday at SW19.

In the 1970 finals, he lost to compatriot John Newcombe in four sets when he was 35. He made the 1974 finals as a 39-year-old, where he played against then-21-year-old Jimmy Connors. It was Connors’ maiden Wimbledon title, which the American claimed in straight sets.

2. Roger Federer – 46

It took Roger Federer five attempts to make the finals at Wimbledon following his main draw debut in 1999. In the 2003 finals, he defeated Mark Philippoussis in straight sets. Federer went on to four more titles for an uninterrupted run until he lost to Rafael Nadal in the 2008 finals.

The Swiss great bounced back to reclaim the crown at the All England Lawn Tennis & Croquet Club in 2009 by downing Andy Roddick in a marathon five-setter. Federer’s first Wimbledon title as a 30-year-old was in 2012, and his final title came in 2017 against Marin Cilic in straight sets.

The Swiss great won his eighth grass major title in 2017 without dropping a set to replicate his title run from 2003.

1. Novak Djokovic – 47

Novak Djokovic defeated fellow Serbian Miomir Kecmanovic for his 100th Wimbledon match win. He then defeated Italian Flavio Cobolli to overtake Federer’s record of most match wins after turning 30 at the grass court major. His victory—from a set down against the young Italian—was Djokovic’s 47th match win at SW19, making him the player with most match wins at Wimbledon after turning 30.

Since turning 30 in May 2017, he added 12 Grand Slam trophies to his collection. After his quarter-final loss to Tomas Berdych at the 2017 edition, Djokovic won four straight titles at SW19 between 2018 and 2022. He won a similar number in Melbourne with four Australian Open titles after crossing 30. Two titles in New York and the French Open make up the rest.
