Wimbledon: Full list of title winners

Roger Federer holds the record for winning the most men’s singles titles at Wimbledon.
Wimbledon is the oldest and most prestigious tennis tournament in the world, dating back to 1877. It is held annually at the All England Lawn Tennis and Croquet Club in Wimbledon, London.
Unlike the other Grand Slam events, Wimbledon remains the only major still played on grass courts, preserving the traditional surface of lawn tennis. Its rich history and unique traditions, such as the all-white dress code and serving of strawberries and cream, have made it a symbol of excellence and heritage in the sport.
The tournament began with just a men’s singles event, featuring 22 amateur players competing over five days. Over time, the women’s singles event was also added in 1884, followed by men’s and women’s doubles, and mixed doubles.
Wimbledon’s format and rules have evolved, notably transitioning to the Open Era in 1968, allowing professional players to compete. The tournament has been held annually except during the World Wars, and it has adapted with innovations like retractable roofs to minimize weather disruptions.
Wimbledon is traditionally played over two weeks in late June and early July. The tournament features five major events—men’s and women’s singles, men’s and women’s doubles, and mixed doubles—along with junior and invitational competitions.

The Centre Court, the tournament’s iconic main court, has undergone several renovations, including the addition of a retractable roof and modern facilities to enhance player and spectator experience.
The tournament’s prestige is also reflected in its traditions and atmosphere. Players must adhere to a strict all-white dress code, and the event maintains a unique charm by limiting advertising around the courts. Wimbledon has been the stage for some of tennis’s most legendary players and moments.
It has witnessed the dominance of champions like Billie Jean King, Rod Laver, Björn Borg, Martina Navratilova, Steffi Graf, Pete Sampras, Roger Federer, and Novak Djokovic, each contributing to its rich legacy. The tournament’s blend of tradition, innovation, and world-class competition continues to captivate tennis fans globally.
The record for the most Wimbledon singles titles is held by Martina Navratilova, who won nine ladies’ singles championships between 1978 and 1990. On the men’s side, Roger Federer holds the Open Era record with eight gentlemen’s singles titles, surpassing Pete Sampras and William Renshaw, who each won seven.
