Zverev beat Felix Auger-Aliassime in straight sets in the previous round to advance.

World No. 5 Alexander Zverev will take on the American Christopher Eubanks in the Round of 32 of the Miami Open 2024. With the hometown boy set to take on one of the crowd favorites, this game promises to be a humdinger of a contest. Both have had contrasting journeys so far in the tournament.

The German has been at his dominating best defeating Felix Auger-Aliassime 6-2 6-4 to go to the third round. It was his service games that were too hot to handle as Zverev won 93% (26/28) of his first serves and 100% (10/10) of his second serves. He also delivered a couple of aces and was rather consistent in not giving up any double faults.

On the other hand, it has been hard work for the American who is playing in both men’s singles and doubles events. Facing Dan Evans, Eubanks was pushed to the hilt as he had to win two sets in the tiebreaker to move to the next round. The fact that he fired in 21 aces shows how he has been capitalizing his height to his advantage.

Alexander Zverev vs Christopher Eubanks Preview

Alexander Zverev has had a mixed 2024 for the standards he has set for himself. He has started tournaments well but lost the plot midway and exited. Every Zverev fan still couldn’t digest the fact that he lost the semifinals of the Australian Open after leading two sets to nil against Daniil Medvedev.

It was a similar story last week in the Indian Wells where he looked lost in the quarters against Carlos Alcaraz. Hence the German will look to ensure he avoids complacency going into the game. The World No. 5 has looked to improve his break point conversion as his service game has been impeccable in the last 10 tournaments.

On the Other hand, Christopher Eubanks and fitness has been one of the talking points in US Tennis circles. Standing 6 feet 7 inches tall, his service game has troubled many, with a win percentage of 83% on hard courts and 84% in his last 10 tournaments. He will look to back his strength and hope to get the support of his home crowd when he comes on to the court.

Prediction

Holding serves and scoring baseline points are adjectives used to describe both players because of their height and style of play. But one external factor that will have a say is the Heat of Miami and Eubanks is coming off a 2-hour 38-minute battle in the men’s singles second round and to add to it is his win in the men’s doubles event.

If he can keep his energy high throughout the game, he will possess a tough challenge. The game promises to have lots of aces delivered from heights and the one who serves better will get the first nod. Both players will look to ensure they convert any opportunity to win break points.

Even though Zverev prevailed in their only previous encounter between the two in straight sets, it was played on outdoor clay, the change in surface suiting the gameplay of both will make the contest more interesting. Although many factors seem to be similar, the German will have an edge over the hometown boy to move to the next round.

Result: Alexander Zverev to win in three sets
