Danielle Collins is the defending champion.

The Miami Open 2025 is the fourth WTA-1000 event of the 2025 calendar year, set to witness the best players from the current era, fight for the coveted trophy and a lucrative prize pool. After the completion of the Indian Wells Open 2025, Miami will bring different conditions to the fore, as the hard and pacy surfaces of Florida demand quick adaptability from the relatively slower nature of courts in Tennis Paradise.

After an extremely competitive edition of Indian Wells, more of the same is expected in Miami. On that note, let’s take a look at some of the top contenders.

Title contenders in women’s singles at Miami Open 2025

5. Elena Rybakina

Elena Rybakina finished as the runner-up in the previous two seasons, and returns to the venue amidst an extremely challenging phase in the Kazakh’s career. Rybakina continues to suffer early exits in competitions where she historically boasts an impressive record.

The Wimbledon champion faced her worst defeat since 2019, against Mirra Andreeva in the fourth round at Indian Wells. Hence, this WTA-1000 event is crucial for Rybakina, as another poor outing will result in a top-10 WTA rankings exit for the first time since 2023.

4. Iga Swiatek

Iga Swiatek has faced a challenging year or so, winning the French Open. The Polish star endured a disappointing Olympic campaign at her favourite Roland Garros, lost her World No. #1 ranking, and fell short at the Australian Open despite being in strong form.

She also struggled in Qatar, Dubai, and Indian Wells, suffering two defeats to 17-year-old Mirra Andreeva. As the 2022 Miami Open champion, Swiatek hasn’t found much success in the tournament since, but with fewer points to defend, she will be eager to make a strong statement and regain momentum.

3. Madison Keys

The Australian Open champion will be a top contender in Miami, as she will rejoice returning back to conditions which are conducive to stroke-making and hard-hitting. Having displayed her complete range at the Melbourne Park, the American made her first appearance since the triumph at the desert.

However, Keys saw her impressive 16-match winning streak come to an abrupt end with a one-sided semifinal defeat to Sabalenka. She will look to shake off that setback as a mere blip and quickly regain her winning momentum.

2. Mirra Andreeva

The 17-year-old Mirra Andreeva’s rise continues at the global stage, after she took down the formidable trio of Grand Slam champions to claim the Indian Wells title. This was her second consecutive WTA-1000 victory, as the Russian defeated World No. #1 and #2 Aryna Sabalenka and Iga Swiatek, along with 2023 winner Elena Rybakina, to become the third-youngest Indian Wells champion after Martina Hingis in 1998 and Serena Williams in 1999.

Mirra Andreeva seems simply unstoppable currently, showing no mercy to even the best players. Having triumphed in Tennis Paradise just a week earlier, the Russian is a favourite to complete the Sunshine Double and become the youngest-ever player in the history of the game to achieve this feat.

A WTA-500 title, and two finals is Aryna Sabalenka’s record in 2025 so far. The World No. #1 was just a set away from winning the Australian Open and Indian Wells but was stunned twice. On the fast courts of Miami, the ruthless and hard-hitting Belarus will hope to over-power her opponents.

The top seed has historically struggled in Miami, which is surprising given that the conditions seem to favour her game. However, this could be the perfect opportunity for redemption as Sabalenka aims to capture her maiden Miami Open title.
