The ATP Monte Carlo Masters is one of the most prestigious tournaments held annually at Roquebrune-Cap-Martin in France. It has seen numerous players grace its courts multiple times throughout their careers.
Undoubtedly, Rafael Nadal has won eleven titles, the most by any player at an ATP 1000 Masters event. With each passing year, while some records are being breached, others are being equaled. In this article, we will look at the players with the most main draw appearances at the Monte Carlo Masters.
Top Five Players with the Most Main Draw Appearances at the Monte Carlo Masters:
5. Stan Wawrinka (14)
Switzerland’s Stan Wawrinka has made 14 main draw appearances at the ATP Monte Carlo Masters. His first appearance was in 2006, where he was defeated in the first round.
Over the years, he won the title once in 2014 by defeating Roger Federer in the final. He has also reached one semi-final and three quarter-finals at the event. His most recent appearance was in 2024, where he was defeated in the Round of 64.
4. Manuel Orantes (14)
Spain’s Manuel Orantes has also made 14 main draw appearances. His career spanned approximately 15 years. He won one title and finished as the runner-up once.
In 1970, he was defeated by Yugoslavia’s Zeljko Franulovic but went on to win the title in 1975, defeating South Africa’s Bob Hewitt in straight sets, 6–2, 6–4.

3. Fabrice Santoro (16)
Fabrice Santoro appeared in the main draw 16 times. His first appearance at the event was in 1990, where his campaign ended in the first round.
Interestingly, in 16 appearances, he never reached the final and only made it to the semi-final round once, in 1997. His next best finish was in 1998, where he was defeated in the quarter-final round. His last appearance in the main draw of the event was in 2008.
2. Rafael Nadal (17)
The most decorated player at the ATP Monte Carlo Masters, Rafael Nadal, was the sole player to have made 17 main draw appearances over the years, a record now equaled by Novak Djokovic.
Nadal’s first appearance at the event was in 2003. He won his first title in 2005, and his last title came in 2018. He was defeated only once in the final of the event, in 2013, and his last appearance was in 2022, where his campaign ended in the quarter-final round.

With each passing year, Novak Djokovic continues to set new records at every event he participates in. With his appearance in 2024, he equaled the record held by Rafael Nadal at the event.
His first appearance at the ATP Monte Carlo Masters was in 2006. He has won the title twice and finished as the runner-up twice. His first title win was in 2013, defeating Rafael Nadal, and the second came in 2015, defeating Tomas Berdych.
