Top four players who have withdrawn from Munich Open 2025

Taylor Fritz’s return to clay has been delayed after he decided to withdraw from Munich.
ATP Munich Open 2025 will witness top names like two-time champion Alexander Zverev and Ben Shelton take centre stage. The competition follows the Monte Carlo Masters, which Alcaraz won to displace the German and reclaim the second spot on the ATP rankings.
With the tournament clashing with the ATP Barcelona Open, top players like Carlos Alcaraz, Casper Ruud, Lorenzo Musetti, and Stefanos Tsitsipas have chosen to compete there instead.
This opens the door for Alexander Zverev to pursue a potential title hat-trick, with the field missing several high-profile names. Additionally, fitness concerns and injuries have caused several players to withdraw. Here’s a look at the top four notable players who’ve pulled out of the Munich Open 2025.
4. Zhizhen Zhang
Zhizhen Zhang last competed on the ATP Tour at Indian Wells 2025, where he lost in the first round to Gabriel Diallo. His absence since then has raised eyebrows, as there has been no official word on any injury or fitness concern from the Chinese star.

3. Roberto Carballes Baena
The Spaniard began his clay court season at the Grand Prix Hassan II in Marrakech, where he reached the semifinals before falling to eventual champion Luciano Darderi.
Though originally set to replace Zhang, he was later granted a spot in his home tournament in Barcelona. He lost his opening round to Jacob Fearnley in straight sets at the ATP Barcelona Open.
2. Hubert Hurkacz
Hubert Hurkacz has played just four tournaments so far, with his best outing coming at ATP Rotterdam, where he reached the semi-finals. The Pole last played Indian Wells, losing the second round to Alex de Minaur.
The 28-year-old was slated to compete in Miami but opted out due to back discomfort, which ruled him out of the Monte Carlo event as well. This is Hurkacz’s third physical issue in the last nine months, after knee and calf injuries last year.

1. Taylor Fritz

World No. 4 Taylor Fritz is yet to make his clay-court debut this season, having withdrawn from Monte Carlo and now Munich with an abdominal injury. His injury first surfaced in February, but it healed after she competed in Indian Wells and Miami.
Unfortunately, the pain resurfaced during Miami and hasn’t healed in time for Munich. With big events like Madrid and the Italian Open approaching, he will hope to recover quickly and be fully fit.
