The entire stadium skipped a beat, when Novak Djokovic slipped on match point.

Novak Djokovic prevailed in a tough battle against Italy’s 23-year-old Flavio Cobolli. The Serbian seemed to be in control in the opening set and was serving for the set. However, the Italian showed why he is highly rated, shocking the Serbian with his scintillating passing shots, as he went on to break and force a tiebreak.

Cobolli stunned Djokovic to take the first set and made a strong statement. However, the seven-time SW19 champion replied with a brutal 6-2 win in the second set. The next two sets were competitive, but it was Djokovic who prevailed ultimately.

However, the conclusion of the match was dramatic and full of action. As Djokovic served for the match, he led 40-30, and had a match point up his sleeve.

However, a forehand return from the Italian just clipped the net, misdirecting the Serbian who had to quickly adjust to position of the ball, and in the process slipped, and fell onto the turf.

The Centre Court gasped in unison, as the horrors of the fourth round battle came alive, when Grigor Dimitrov collapsed in a similar manner, that ultimately led to his withdrawal. Djokovic’s wife and son, Stefan wore concerned looks, but the 38-year-old soon rose to his feet, much to the relief of his family and fans.

He went on to claim the next two points, to get the job done and seal his 14th semi-final berth at Wimbledon, the most for any man in tennis history. Djokovic addressed his nasty fall, during his on-court press conference.

“Well, I finished the match,” the Serbian jokingly remarked. “Nasty slip, but that’s what happens when you play on grass. I didn’t fall so far this year, and it’s a bit surprising because of the way I move on the grass. And with aggressive movement, you’re expected to fall.

It did come at an awkward moment, but I managed to find a good serve and close it out. “Obviously, I’ll visit this subject now with my physio and will play in a few days.”

The Serbian has a day to rest and recover, ahead of his blockbuster showdown, against World No. 1 Jannik Sinner. The 24-time Grand Slam champion needs to be fully fit for that encounter, as he must come up with his best tennis, if he wishes to get the better of the Italian, who looks unstoppable once again.

A record 25th major is only two wins away, but the path is far from easy, as the Serbian might have to beat two of the best players from the modern generation.
