Things have gone from bad to worse for Novak Djokovic since his shocking first-round exit at the US Open 2026. Djokovic went down to Argentine Mariano Navone in a marathon five-set clash, for his first opening round exit from a Slam since 2006.
The 6-7(4), 7-5, 6-4, 2-6, 1-6 loss also halted several streaks of the Serbian, including falling out of the top 10 in ATP rankings.

Meanwhile, Alexander Zverev outclassed Ben Shelton in the US Open 2026 final to win the second Grand Slam of his career. Once seen as the best player to have never won a Slam, the German now has two in the bag, having won in Paris, and now in New York.
Zverev crushed the hopes of American fans, who hoped Ben Shelton could finally be the first American in over two decades to win a Grand Slam title. However, it was not to be, as Shelton was unable to produce his best tennis on the day.
Thanks to his historic win, Zverev moves to the top spot in the ATP Finals live rankings (Race to Turin rankings), surpassing Jannik Sinner.
Shelton reaches a career-high ranking of World No. 4 after advancing to a maiden Grand Slam final. Carlos Alcaraz dropped 1,600 points after being unable to retain his crown.
