Eleven players, past and present, have a winning record against Djokovic.

Ageing with finesse, Novak Djokovic‘s name has been a synonym for fitness and consistency for the last two decades. The Serbian tennis star has won 24 Grand Slam titles and has closely contested against the veterans as well as prodigies. Djokovic leads Roger Federer, Rafael Nadal, and Andy Murray in the head-to-head record.

On the other hand, he is also ahead of Carlos Alcaraz and equal to Jannik Sinner. At the 2024 Paris Olympics, the Serbian tennis star completed his two-decade-old dream by winning a gold medal.

Thus, beating Djokovic has always been tough for tennis stars, but few players have a winning record against the 24-time Grand Slam champion.

Andy Roddick: 5-4

Interestingly, Andy Roddick has won five out of nine matches against Djokovic. The former American tennis star was famous for his fast serves and strong groundstrokes. His tactics and utilisation of the first serve troubled a young Djokovic very well, which still reflected in statistics many years after Riddick retired from professional tennis.

Marat Safin: 2-0

Famous for his look, Marat Safin’s on-court skills are often overlooked by tennis fans. However, the two-time Grand Slam champion had a flawless record against Novak Djokovic. The former Russian tennis star also had a strong serve to offer, which always came up as difficult to face. He faced Djokovic both times at the Grand Slam, recording a comprehensive victory.

Jiri Vesely: 2-0

Jiri Vesely is one of the few active players to have a winning record against the Paris Olympic gold medallist. He has a perfect record against Djokovic, and his victories came during the Serb’s prolonged prime era. Vesely first defeated the 37-year-old at the 2016 Monte Carlo Masters and then folded him at the 2022 Dubai Tennis Championships.

Nick Kyrgios: 2-1

Currently inactive on the tennis court (but hyperactive on X), Nick Kyrgios has a 2-1 winning record against Djokovic. The Aussie won his two initial matches on the tour against the 10-time Australian Open champion. His only loss against the Serb came in the 2022 Wimbledon final after he got a walkover from Rafael Nadal in the last four.

Ivo Karlovic: 2-1

Ivo Karlovic answered Djokovic’s shots on most occasions. In addition to being a decent server, Karlovic always kept his endurance game strong. The former Croatian tennis star competed with Djokovic to nip and tuck as they played at least one tiebreak in all their matches. After losing to the Serb in Hamburg, he defeated Djokovic in Madrid in 2008 and Doha in 2015.

Fernando Gonzalez: 2-1

Fernando Gonzalez clashed against Djokovic during his formative years on the tour. He defeated Cincinnati in 2005 and Madrid in 2006. However, the former Chilean tennis ace failed to keep a perfect record against the Serb, as Djokovic beat him in a five-setter at the 2006 Roland Garros.

Daniel Evans: 1-0

Andy Murray’s Paris Olympics doubles partner, Daniel Evans, leads Djokovic in their head-to-head record. Evans, who’s always preferred grass or hard court, defeated Djokovic at the Monte Carlo Masters in 2022. The win came as a surprise for the Briton, and since then, they’ve yet to meet each other on the tour again.

Filippo Volandri: 1-0

Filippo Volandri won against Novak Djokovic in 2004, one of the formative years of his career. The victory came in the Round of 16 at UMAG. Volandri retired from professional tennis in 2016 with two titles to his name.

Dennis Van Scheppingen: 1-0

Another name who defeated Djokovic in his early years was Dennis Van Scheppingen in Bangkok in 2004. After a 15-year-long professional career, the Dutchman retired from tennis in 2008, without winning any titles on the tour.

Antony Dupuis: 1-0

Former French tennis player Antony Dupuis crossed paths with Djokovic in the Round of 32 of the 2007 Valencia Open. Ultimately, it wasn’t a tough match for the Frenchman as he beat Djokovic 6-4, 7-5.

The Serb never had the opportunity to face Antony Dupuis again, and the French player retired in 2013.

Taro Daniel: 1-0

One of the most surprising names on the list, Japan’s Taro Daniel, is unbeaten against Djokovic. He stunned the 37-year-old at the 2018 Indian Wells Masters, 7-6(3), 4-6, 6-1. The two could still face each other on the Tour, and Djokovic could have a chance to improve the record.
