Laver Cup 2025: Players who have withdrawn

Three Americans withdrew from Laver Cup 2025, weakening Team World’s contingent.

The Laver Cup 2025 has seen a wave of withdrawals shake up Team World’s original lineup, forcing captain Andre Agassi to make multiple replacements ahead of the event. Against an already powerful team led by top ranked stars like Carlos Alcaraz, Alexander Zverev and Holger Rune, Team Europe enter the competition as hot contenders.

Taylor Fritz and his men will have to play out of their skins to end Team Europe’s superb streak. Fritz himself will have to come to the party, and heavy expectations will be on Australia’s Alex de Minaur, alongside promising talents in Brazilian prodigy Joao Fonseca and Argentina’s Francisco Cerúndolo.

Frances Tiafoe

World No. 29 Frances Tiafoe has become the third confirmed withdrawal from Team World at the 2025 Laver Cup, following Shelton and Paul. After competing in the Davis Cup in Delray Beach, the American opted to rest ahead of the Asian Swing and will not feature in the event. His place will be taken by world No. 8 Alex de Minaur, giving captain Andre Agassi another top-10 player alongside Taylor Fritz in Team World’s lineup.

Ben Shelton

Ben Shelton (No. 6) was forced to withdraw from Team World’s Laver Cup lineup due to a post-US Open injury. Shelton earlier had to forfeit his third round clash of US Open due to heart-breaking shoulder injury, and his time away from the centre stage continues. To fill his spot, captain Agassi brought in fellow American Alex Michelsen (No. 32), giving the youngster a chance to make his debut in the prestigious event.

Tommy Paul

Similarly, 15th ranked Tommy Paul also pulled out earlier in the week with a post-US Open injury setback. His place was taken by big-serving American Reilly Opelka (No. 63), marking his return to the team and adding experience and power to the World lineup, in both singles and doubles division.
