Preview: Carlos Alcaraz vs Daniil Medvedev prediction, betting tips & odds, head-to-head | Vienna Open 2026
Medvedev’s quarter-final win guaranteed him a place in the ATP Finals
Carlos Alcaraz and Daniil Medvedev meet in the Vienna Open 2026 semi-finals with a place in the championship match at stake and with one of them set to take a big step toward ending the season strongly.
Six-time Grand Slam champion Alcaraz has been in control all week. The Spaniard beat Karen Khachanov and Nikoloz Basilashvili, then overcame Tommy Paul 6-4, 7-6(2) in the quarter-finals, winning all three of his matches in straight sets.
This semi-final run matches his best-ever campaign in Vienna, which came on his debut in the tournament in 2021. Alcaraz will be confident of another title match, having now won 24 consecutive matches at ATP 500 tournaments, including title runs in Doha and Tokyo this year.
Medvedev, the third seed and 2022 champion in Vienna, successfully booked his place at the ATP Finals in Turin with his quarter-final win over Adrian Mannarino. He has won seven matches in a row, after clinching the Almaty title last week.
In the second round, he came back from 5-3 down, facing a match point against Cameron Norrie, to record a stunning escape.
Since his fourth-round loss at the US Open, he has won titles in Hangzhou and Almaty and reached the semi-finals in Shanghai and Beijing.

Preview
Alcaraz vs Medvedev is one of the most exciting matchups on the ATP tour, and the duo are set to face off for the 10th time. Medvedev won their only previous meeting this season at the Indian Wells Open semi-finals, a rematch of the 2023 and 2024 finals there, both of which Alcaraz had won.
The Russian has long been one of the toughest opponents for the Spaniard, thanks to his depth off the ground and a flat, deep backhand that rarely gives up free points.
With both players in excellent form recently, this promises to be a cracker of a contest, and could also provide a glimpse of what to expect in the year-end Finals in Turin.

Match prediction
Alcaraz is back to playing his near-best tennis, and will be confident about his game having won all his matches in straight sets all week. Medvedev, however, proved in Indian Wells that a good day from the Russian can neutralise the Alcaraz threat.
On a fast indoor court, the first-strike tennis that the Spaniard plays should give him an edge in the key games, especially on his serve, where he has been landing a high first-serve percentage and rarely facing break points.
Medvedev has played a lot of tennis over the past few weeks, and a lengthy exchange could test his fitness and physicality as well.
Result: Carlos Alcaraz to win in three sets.
