Learner Tien won the 2025 title, defeating Alexander Blockx in the final.
The Next Gen ATP Finals, held annually in Jeddah since 2023, is an innovative end-of-season exhibition featuring the world’s top eight players aged 20 and under.
The 2025 edition followed a round-robin format, dividing participants into two groups of four, with each player facing the others in their group; the top two from each advanced to semi-finals followed by the final.
Matches used a fast-paced best-of-five tiebreak sets structure—first to four games (tiebreak at 3-3), no-advantage scoring (deciding point at deuce, with the receiver choosing side), shorter changeovers, a three-minute warmup, and other tweaks like an eight-second limit between serves to keep action intense and dynamic.
This event exists primarily as a launchpad for emerging talents, spotlighting the sport’s future stars while serving as a testing ground for rule innovations aimed at enhancing pace, entertainment, and fan engagement.
Launched in 2017, it has propelled alumni like Jannik Sinner and Carlos Alcaraz to Grand Slam glory, hoping to produce more such stars in the future. 2024 champion Joao Fonseca did not return to defend his crown.
Prize Money earned by each player at ATP Next Gen Finals 2025
Justin Engel (no wins) – $154,000
Justin Engel, the youngest competitor at the 2025 Next Gen ATP Finals, finished his debut campaign in Jeddah with an 0–3 round-robin record after entering as a late replacement.
While consistency eluded him against more seasoned opponents, the 18-year-old showed clear promise, pushing Alexander Blockx after winning the opening-set tiebreak and competing hard against Dino Prižmić.
Despite the results, Engel’s breakout 2025 season is highlighted by his first Challenger title in Hamburg and becoming the second-youngest player after Rafael Nadal to win ATP matches on all three surfaces.
Martín Landaluce (no wins) – $154,000
Martín Landaluce, the 19-year-old Spaniard and former US Open junior champion, competed in the Blue Group at the 2025 Next Gen ATP Finals in Jeddah but exited in the round-robin stage with an 0-3 record, losing in four sets to Nicolai Budkov Kjær, four sets to top seed Learner Tien, and straight sets to compatriot Rafael Jódar.
Dino Prižmić (1 group win) – $191,500
Dino Prižmić, the 20-year-old Croatian, also exited in the round-robin stage of the 2025 Next Gen ATP Finals with a 1-2 record, securing a hard-fought win over Justin Engel (4-1, 2-4, 4-3(3), 4-1) but falling to Nishesh Basavareddy and Alexander Blockx.
Rebounding strongly in 2025 after an injury-hit previous year, Prižmić captured two Challenger titles (Zagreb and Bratislava) during a 14-match streak and reached an ATP quarterfinal in Umag, demonstrating his all-court resilience and maturity.

Rafael Jódar (2 group wins) – $229,000
Rafael Jódar, the 19-year-old Spaniard, made an impressive debut at the 2025 Next Gen ATP Finals, stunning top seed Learner Tien in a five-set thriller by saving four match points and later defeating compatriot Martin Landaluce in straight sets.
Though losses to Nicolai Budkov Kjær and the group dynamics kept him from the semifinals, Jódar’s flashy groundstrokes, resilience, and late-2025 surge, highlighted by three Challenger titles.
Nishesh Basavareddy (semifinalist) – $229,000
American youngster Nishesh Basavareddy enjoyed a solid run, reaching the semifinals in his first tournament working with renowned coach Gilles Cervara.
Carrying momentum from a strong season that included a semifinal run in Auckland and a competitive four-set loss to Novak Djokovic on his Grand Slam debut in Australia, Basavareddy impressed in group play with wins over Dino Prizmic and Justin Engel.
Nicolai Budkov (semifinalist) – $229,000
Nicolai Budkov Kjær, the 19-year-old Norwegian powerhouse, delivered a standout performance at the 2025 Next Gen ATP Finals in Jeddah, advancing to the semifinals as the first player from his country to achieve this milestone.
He dominated the Blue Group with wins over Martin Landaluce and Rafael Jódar, avenging his US Open boys’ final loss to the latter, before falling in straight sets to eventual finalist Alexander Blockx.
Backed by four Challenger titles in 2025 and a powerful baseline game honed alongside idol Casper Ruud, Budkov Kjær’s composure and heavy hitting mark him as a rising force ready for Top 100 entries.
Alexander Blockx – Runner-up: $382,500
Alexander Blockx’s run to the final underlined his status as one of Europe’s most exciting young prospects, even if the summit clash ultimately slipped away.
The Belgian arrived in Jeddah as one of the top seeds and showcased his aggressive baseline game throughout the week, pushing Tien hard in the opening set and firing seven aces in the final.
While inconsistency on his second serve proved costly against a relentless opponent, Blockx’s ability to compete at this level, years after their Australian Open junior final meeting, highlighted his continued upward trajectory and strong potential heading into the 2026 season.
Learner Tien – Champion: $502,250
Learner Tien capped off a remarkable 2025 by delivering a near-flawless performance in the Next Gen ATP Finals final, defeating Alexander Blockx 4–3(4), 4–2, 4–1 in under an hour.
Ranked world No. 28, Tien’s triumph added to a stellar season that already featured his maiden ATP title at the Moselle Open, five wins over top-10 players, and a reputation as one of the most tactically mature players of his generation.
