Rio Open 2025: All you need to know about prize money and points on offer

Sebastian Baez will look to become a two-time champion for the first time at the Rio Open 2025.
The Rio Open 2025 will see World No. 2 Alexander Zverev debut at the clay-court event. The 27-year-old is the top seed on his first visit to South America. Zverev will face China’s Yunchaokete Bu in the opening round, with a semi-final clash against Francisco Cerundolo on the cards.
Defending champion Sebastian Baez takes on India’s Sumit Nagal in the opening round. The fifth seed, Baez, is seeded to meet Musetti in the semi-finals. Baez will look to make history by becoming the first defending champion to retain the trophy since the event’s inception in 2014.
Italian player Lorenzo Musetti is the second seed as the 2022 Rio winner Carlos Alcaraz skipped Rio in favour of playing in Doha. Musetti, the 2024 Wimbledon semi-finalist, will make his second appearance at the Rio Open. The World No. 16 Italian will play either Brazilian Thiago Seyboth Wild or Spaniard Jaume Munar to begin his second campaign in Rio.

The Rio-based tennis event has a fair share of players making the trip from nearby Argentina, with as many as six Argentines turning up, led by fourth seed Francisco Cerundolo. The Brazilians are participating in fair numbers, too, with five of them having signed up. Thiago Seyboth Wild leads the Brazilian presence along with rising star Joao Fonseca. The 18-year-old Fonseca will have the full backing of a supportive home crowd after he reached the quarter-finals last season.
The Rio native is currently playing in Buenos Aires and has made a strong start to the 2025 season. Fonseca came through qualifying at the Australian Open to upset Andrey Rublev in the opening round for the first top-ten win of his career. Given his recent form, a deep run on home turf and a possible clash with Zverev is an intriguing possibility.

Holger Rune, who was due to make his Rio Open debut, has opted out after an early exit in Argentina last week. The Scandinavian lost to local player Mariano Navone in straight sets. The 21-year-old Rune will skip the Rio Open as he has been nursing a shoulder injury.
Chileans Nicolas Jarry and Alejandro Tabilo, 2024 runner-up Mariano Navone, and Spain’s Alejandro Davidovich Fokina are among the other notable entries in the event.
