Roger Federer played his farewell match alongside Rafael Nadal in the 2022 Laver Cup.

Roger Federer has stated that he would love to face his former arch-rival, Rafael Nadal, in a post-retirement exhibition game.

The 20-time Grand Slam champion also mentioned that the match’s profits should go to a better cause. Federer also demonstrated his intention to encourage and motivate new athletes to take up tennis.

Federer, an eight-time Wimbledon champion, said during an interview with Tages-Anzeiger, “It would be great if it worked out. If we played exhibitions after our playing careers, we’d have more time and wouldn’t have to rush to the next match.

“I could imagine combining it with a good cause, raising money for my foundation and inspiring local young players.”

However, Roger Federer also stated that nothing is set in stone as of now. He added, “Nothing concrete is planned yet, but I can see some cool things that could come out of it.”

The Swiss Maestro is also set to become the first member of the ‘Big Three’ to be inducted into the International Tennis Hall of Fame next year. Federer will join the coveted list under the recent player category. The other two former players nominated for the title were Juan Martin del Potro and Svetlana Kuznetsova.

Upon hearing the news about his latest honour, Roger Federer stated that he was elated to be inducted into the list alongside the huge names of other tennis icons.

He has also won the most titles on grass while holding the record for the most men’s singles Wimbledon titles. With eight titles at SW19, he’s leading Pete Sampras and Novak Djokovic by one.

The former Swiss tennis star also holds the record for spending the most consecutive weeks (237) as world No. 1. He reached the pinnacle of the rankings for the first time in February 2004 and remained there until August 2007. Later, Federer was finally dethroned by a 22-year-old Rafael Nadal.

When will Roger Federer be inducted into the International Tennis Hall of Fame?
