The main draw of Shanghai Masters 2024 is scheduled from September 2 to 13.
The qualifying draw of the ATP Shanghai Masters 2024 will commence on September 30, as multiple tennis stars will aim to push their rankings before the year ends and secure a spot in the ATP Finals 2024. Novak Djokovic returns to action after he lost to Australia’s Alexie Popyrin in the third round of the 2024 US Open.
Meanwhile, the reigning US Open champion Jannik Sinner will also look forward to adding more points to his kitty as the World No. #1, while the likes of Alexander Zverev and Carlos Alcaraz will be keen to close the ranking gap.
However, some of the top stars will miss the tournament due to fitness and health concerns. Hence, without further ado, let’s take a look at the top five players who have withdrawn from the 2024 Shanghai Masters:
Players who have withdrawn from Shanghai Masters 2024
5. Jan-Lennard Struff
Aged 34, Jan-Lennard Struff holds the capability to challenge the top seeds in any competition on the tour, especially at the hard and clay courts. His matches against four-time Grand Slam champion Alcaraz have been a glimpse of his on-court prowess.
However, Struff has withdrawn from the tournament, and his spot was filled by Daniel Altmaier, who also pulled out. Thus, Italy’s Luca Nardi will play at the Shanghai Masters.
4. Cameron Norrie
Cameron Norrie missed the 2024 US Open due to a forearm injury. Unfortunately, the Briton’s return to the tennis court has been delayed and he won’t play in the Shanghai Masters. He last played at the Bastad Open, where he lost to Rafael Nadal in straight sets.
3. Sebastian Korda
The 2024 Washington Open champion Sebastian Korda will miss the Shanghai Masters 2024 due to an elbow injury; he suffered earlier this year during a tournament. He last played at the US Open, where he lost to Tomas Machac in the second round. Seeded 16th, the American tennis star suffered a lot of criticism for his performance on his home ground.
2. Alex de Minaur
Alex de Minaur will miss another important event after he suffered a hip injury at the 2024 Wimbledon Championships against Arthur Fils in the fourth round. The Australian tennis star reached the quarterfinals at Roland Garros, Wimbledon, and the US Open. However, he has been unlucky with injuries in his breakthrough year.
He’s currently eighth in the race rankings, and if Novak Djokovic plays at the Shanghai Masters, Alex de Minaur’s participation in the ATP Finals becomes highly uncertain.
1. Hubert Hurkacz
The defending champion, Hubert Hurkacz, has withdrawn from the championship. He suffered an injury during the 2024 Wimbledon Championships, and since then, he has failed to secure a full recovery. He was seeded second at the on-going Japan Open but lost in the second round to Jack Draper.
Hurkacz also lost to Jordan Thompson in the second round of the 2024 US Open. As a result of the withdrawal, the Polish tennis star will slip out of the top 10 rankings.
