Daniil Medvedev lost to Jannik Sinner in 70 minutes at the Six Kings Slam.
Russian tennis star Daniil Medvedev has heaped praise on Jannik Sinner following his defeat against the world no. #1 at the Six Kings Slam 2024 on Wednesday, October 16. Medvedev was beaten by the Italian 0-6, 3-6.
Medvedev scored six aces against Jannik Sinner but also made three double faults. In the first set, the Russian tennis star lost his serve three times, failing to win a single game. The former US Open champion tried reinforcing his strength in the second set but eventually lost the match as he utterly failed to keep up with Sinner’s pace.
After the match, Medvedev lauded Sinner for his brilliant performance. The Russian, who has also faced the likes of Roger Federer, Novak Djokovic, and Rafael Nadal, stated that he has never locked horns against someone on the level the ATP World No. #1 was at during their clash at the Six Kings Slam on Wednesday.
He said (via Six Kings Slam press), “If Carlos is at the top of his game, I’d consider him slightly better. Today I changed my opinion. I’ve never played someone who played like Jannik today.”
The 28-year-old also talked about the comparison between Carlos Alcaraz and Jannik Sinner. He stated the ATP World No. #1 is slightly better than the four-time Grand Slam champion. Medvedev and Sinner are currently tied 7-7 in their overall head-to-head record on the tour.
The Russian tennis star added, “When we compare Carlos to Jannik I usually think of Jannik as a little bit more consistent, more like a machine, while Carlos is a little bit more, you know, up and down with some flare. But when Carlos is at the top of his game, I would consider him slightly better.”
Playing at the 2024 Shanghai Masters, Medvedev’s campaign came to an end against eventual champion Sinner 1-6, 4-6 in the quarterfinals. Meanwhile, the Russian tennis star has withdrawn from the ATP 500 Vienna Open due to shoulder problems.
He said (via IG erstebankopen), “I have a lot of positive memories of the tournament. So, it’s a shame that I can’t compete, but I’ll definitely be playing in Vienna next year.”
