Jannik Sinner was crowned as king after the three-day affair.

The Six Kings Slam 2024, an exhibition event in Saudi Arabia, drew attention for its elaborate setup. From a dramatic five-minute trailer that gave larger-than-life personas to the players to a holographic opening ceremony before every match, the event had it all.

The exhibition match was also the stage for the last face-off between Novak Djokovic and Rafael Nadal. Though not official, the meeting was the 61st all-time head-to-head between the two in the third-place face-off. It carried historical significance as the last time the two legends met in a match environment ahead of Nadal’s retirement next month following the Davis Cup Finals.

“I don’t know where to start with Rafa,” Djokovic said in the post-match interview. “An amazing career. I could speak all night. It has been an honour to share the court with you.”

Tempting the six players to Saudia Arabian shores was also the lure of a significant pay packet, rivalling the Grand Slams, the Nitto ATP Finals and even the ATP Masters events in its generosity. The total prize money amounting to $15 million was a large carrot that drew the six players to the Middle-Eastern Kingdom. Each participant was awarded $1.5 million, and the winner’s pay cheque was a substantial $6 million.

The substantial amounts set the cash registers ringing for the participants irrespective of the result.

Prize money earned by each player at Six Kings Slam 2024

Carlos Alcaraz ($1.5 million)

Alcaraz pocketed $1.5 million for his appearance at the Six Kings Slam 2024 over the three days of the event. In contrast, the Spaniard’s paycheck after winning the Indian Wells Masters this year was $1.1 million at the nearly two-week event.

The winner’s check for the Six Kings Slam alone was the sum of the prize money Carlos Alcaraz Earned for winning at Roland Garros ($2.6 million) and Wimbledon ($3.5 million) this year. The winner’s purse in Riyadh represents 66% of Alcaraz’s on-court season winnings of $9,036,407.

Jannik Sinner ($6 million)

Jannik Sinner prevailed at the three-day event to be crowned the winner of the first edition of the Six Kings Slam. The winner’s cheque surpasses what he received after winning the US Open. After winning the US Open for the first time this year, the Italian took home $3.6 million. For defeating Alcaraz in the finals of the Six Kings Slam, the World No. #1 pocketed a cool $6 million, which also included the $1.5 million participation fee.

Including the prize money from winning the Australian Open amounting to $2.1 million, the sum earned from Sinner’s Grand Slam wins comes to $5.7 million. The $6 million winner’s paycheck he picked up from Riyadh is just shy of 50% of Sinner’s 2024 collection of $12,032,935.

Novak Djokovic ($1.5 million)

When the 37-year-old Novak Djokovic completed the Golden Slam by winning the elusive gold medal at the Paris Olympics, he was awarded $218,000 by the Serbian government. He pocketed nearly seven times the amount for turning up at the Six Kings Slam.

Despite losing to Jannik Sinner in the semi-finals, he was given the $1.5 million cheque for participating in the inaugural edition. The amount doled out to Djokovic represents 35% of his 2024 winnings of $4,421,915.

Rafael Nadal ($1.5 million)

The retirement-bound Nadal spent the 2024 season largely on the sidelines and reached his only final at Bastad, Sweden, where he lost to Nuno Borges in straight sets. His appearance at Riyadh gave the 14-time French Open champion $1.5 million, five times over the $301,661 he won in prize money in the ongoing season. Though a blip on the $135 million Nadal won in his career, it is a significant sum for three days at the office.

In a light-hearted moment, Djokovic attempted to coax Nadal into dancing with him during their night out in Riyadh. Nadal was seen declining the invite before finally stepping onto the stage. It was a different kind of last dance between the two.

Holger Rune ($1.5 million)

Rune, who made an exit in the quarter-final, has earnings of $2.2 million in 2024. Once ranked No. #4 in the world, he is now at No. #14 and hasn’t been past the fourth round at any of the Grand Slams this year, besides turning up empty after reaching the Brisbane International finals in January.

Despite his quarter-final loss to Alcaraz, Rune’s $1.5 million take-home from Riyadh represents nearly 70% of his year-to-date prize money.

Daniil Medvedev ($1.5 million)

Medvedev, the 2021 US champion, who lost to Sinner in the other quarter-final, too, enjoyed a productive trip. The Russian’s $1.5 million payout was equal to 32% of his year-to-date haul of $4.8 million.

The World No. #5 had a forgettable year despite reaching two finals and four semi-finals at various events. The Russian is fourth in the race to Turin and has withdrawn from the Vienna Open, which he won in 2022.
