Their best record in the old 16-team World Group era was reaching the opening round — a feat they achieved five times, most recently in 2008, but never progressed beyond that stage.
But the 2022 and 2023 seasons were transformative. Korea reached the expanded 16-nation Davis Cup Finals, a leap built on famous away wins including a stunning comeback from 2-0 down to beat Belgium.
Soonwoo Kwon and Hyeon Chung have been at the heart of that resurgence, and they’re both back leading the line again after helping Korea come from behind to beat 2016 champions Argentina in Round 1.

Match Prediction
On paper, Soonwoo Kwon looks like India’s biggest roadblock. His flat, penetrating forehand and ability to step inside the baseline and take the ball early on hard courts make him a formidable match-up for both Nagal and Suresh, whose games are built more around heavy topspin and sustained rallies from behind the baseline.
Luckily for India, Suresh will play him first, and the 26-year-old will hope to capitalise on any potential rustiness and throw the Korean off his game using his big serves. Realistically, India have to write off at least one of those two singles points against him and build their route to victory elsewhere.
That’s where the doubles becomes non-negotiable. Yuki Bhambri’s presence at the net and extensive doubles experience will be missed, but South Korea’s Park-Nam pairing lacks the same level of big-match pedigree as a unit. For Balaji and Poonacha, therefore, this is a crucial rubber they will need to win.
Chung is the more beatable of Korea’s two singles players in current form, as his game leans more on court craft and variety than raw power, and both Nagal and Suresh have the physicality to outlast him in longer exchanges.
