Stefanos Tsitsipas parts ways with coach Goran Ivanisevic

Ivanisevic recently burst out at Stefanos Tsitsipas for his “poor professionalism and distractions.”

Stefanos Tsistispas‘ problems on and off the court seem to only be increasing day by day, with the latest update of him sacking his coach Goran Ivanisevic creating further turmoil within an already chaotic team environment.

This news came as no surprise, following the Croatian’s scathing criticism of his own player after Tsitsipas’ first-round exit at Wimbledon. The partnership, which began in May, came to an abrupt end with their final match together at SW19 in 2025.

Tsitsipas has struggled for form over the past two years now, managing just two wins across his last five Grand Slam appearances. His grass-court season was equally disappointing, yielding only one victory. At Wimbledon, he fell two sets behind against qualifier Valentin Royer in the opening round before retiring due to injury.

“Working with Goran Ivanisevic was a brief but intense experience and a truly valuable chapter in my journey. I’m thankful for the time, effort, and energy he dedicated to me and my team. As we are now following our separate ways, I have only respect for Goran — not just for what he’s achieved in tennis, but also for who he is as a person. I wish him nothing but the very best moving forward”, wrote Tsitsipas on his Instagram story.

This decision to part ways comes on the back of Ivanisevic’s brutal interview where he criticized Tsitsipas in a podcast, calling him out for his poor professionalism and distractions.

“I have never seen a more unprepared player in my life. With this knee, I am three times more fit than him. This is really bad,” the former Wimbledon winner had said of Tsitsipas.

These remarks, regardless of a player’s on-court performance, should never be aired publicly. Unsurprisingly, Tsitsipas was displeased with Ivanisevic, and after a verbal disagreement, the two decided to part ways.

Ivanisevic also alluded to Tsitsipas’ personal life, subtly referencing his relationship with tennis star Paula Badosa. Just days later, rumours surfaced about a breakup between the pair.

Currently ranked outside the top 25, a resurgence looks increasingly unlikely for Tsitsipas, who faces more questions than answers. He is expected to reunite with his father and former coach, Apostolos Tsitsipas, though their relationship has also seen its share of friction.

Meanwhile, Ivanisevic’s coaching style is likely to come under scrutiny. His previous stint with former Wimbledon champion Elena Rybakina ended abruptly as well, with the two splitting at the start of 2025.
