Ben Shelton is aiming for his maiden US Open title
USA’s Ben Shelton will chase his maiden Grand Slam title against Germany’s Alexander Zverev in the US Open 2026 men’s singles final on Sunday, September 13, likely without his girlfriend, Trinity Rodman, in the stands.
Rodman, a professional footballer who plays for the USA women’s national team, has been in a long-term relationship with Shelton since 2025. The 24-year-old footballer has often been seen in the stands supporting her boyfriend, including in the semi-final at Flushing Meadows.
However, Rodman is unlikely to be present at Arthur Ashe Stadium in New York during this year’s US Open men’s singles final, which will take place at 2:00 PM ET (11:30 PM IST) on Sunday.
The timing poses a challenge for Rodman, who currently plays for the National Women’s Soccer League (NWLS) side Washington Spirit. Rodman’s club will play Boston Legacy FC at Audi Field in Washington, DC, on Sunday at 1:00 PM ET (10:30 PM IST).

Shelton reached his maiden Grand Slam final by beating fellow American Frances Tiafoe 4-6, 6-3, 6-3, 7-5 on Friday. This marks Shelton’s best run so far at Flushing Meadows, and he can become the first American male tennis player to win a Grand Slam since Andy Roddick in 2003.
Shelton has been in scintillating form this season, already bagging four ATP titles in Dallas, Munich, Stuttgart and Montreal. The player has repeatedly thanked Rodman for travelling with him to tournaments worldwide.
The footballer was present during Shelton’s shock quarter-final win against defending champion Carlos Alcaraz of Spain. This marked the American’s first-ever win over the Spaniard. Shelton will also be chasing his maiden career win against Zverev, having lost all five of his previous meetings with the German player.
However, the home favourite will have to achieve this feat, likely without the support of his girlfriend, who will be dealing with her NWSL commitment.
