Jannik Sinner has broken many records by winning US Open 2024.

Different eras of tennis have witnessed several stars making their name on various surfaces. When the Open Era started, Rod Laver and Ken Rosewall were the prominent figures. They passed the torch to the likes of Bjorn Borg, Jimmy Connors, John Newcombe among others.

Later, Pete Sampras and Andre Agassi became the leaders of the tour before the ‘Big Three’ took over. Roger Federer, Rafael Nadal, and Novak Djokovic won a combined total of 66 Grand Slam titles. Currently, it seems like baton has passed to Jannik Sinner and Carlos Alcaraz.

Sinner recently won the 2024 US Open and joined an elite list of top tennis icons to win the Australian Open and the US Open in the same year. Thus, with that being said, let’s take a look at the top five youngest tennis players to win the Australian Open and the US Open in the same year:

5. Novak Djokovic (24 years, 113 days)

Serbian tennis star Novak Djokovic is placed fifth on the list as he won the Australian Open and the US Open for the first time in the same year in 2011. He defeated Andy Murray in Melbourne to win his second Australian Open title, while Rafael Nadal went down fighting against Serb at Flushing Meadows, aged 24 years and 113 days. He repeated the feat in 2015 and 2024 too.

He returned to defend his title at the Rod Laver Arena next year. After 1987, the tournament started getting played on the hardcourt.

And the Swedish tennis icon stunned Pat Cash in a five-setter to win the 1988 title. Later, he won the French Open after beating Henri Leconte in the summit clash before he took down Ivan Lendl in the final at Flushing Meadows. At that time, he was 24 years and 10 days old.

3. Roger Federer (23 years, 35 days)

Swiss Maestro Roger Federer is on the third spot in this list. He completed the milestone in 2005 by defeating Lleyton Hewitt of Australia in straight sets. In addition to that, with the title triumph, he became the 10th man to win three majors in a calendar year, aged 23 years and 35 days.

He repeated the feat in 2006 and 2007 too. Federer is also the last male tennis star to defend his title at the US Open, he won five consecutive championships between 2004 to 2008. In the five years, he played only two five-set matches.

2. Jannik Sinner (23 years, 23 days)

Jannik Sinner defeated America’s Taylor Fritz in the final of the 2024 US Open to win his second Grand Slam. With the memorable victory at the Authur Ashe Stadium, he became the second youngest male tennis player to win the Australian Open and the US Open in the same year, aged 23 years and 23 days.

Earlier this year, he took down the likes of Daniil Medvedev in a five-set finale after he defeated Novak Djokovic in the semifinals. Sinner is also the first Italian man to win the Australian Open and the US Open in tennis history.

American tennis icon Jimmy Connors tops the list as he won his three initial Grand Slam titles, the Australian Open, Wimbledon and the US Open in the same year, 1974, while he was 22 years and six days old.

Interestingly, he won all three titles on the green surface because the Australian Open was played on grass from 1905 to 1987 and the US Open adapted hard courts in 1974. Connors won eight Grand Slam titles in his professional career. Moreover, he has won the most number of singles ATP titles in the Open Era, 109.
