The 2024 Vienna Open is Dominic Thiem’s last professional tournament.

The main draw of ATP Vienna Open 2024 got underway on Monday (October 21), with Dominic Thiem bidding farewell to tennis in home tournament. Thiem, 2020 US Open champion and winner here in 2019, played his last professional match on Tuesday—a 6-7(6), 2-6 defeat to Italian Luciano Darderi in the opening round. The Austrian tennis ace received a warm reception from the tournament as well as the fans in the capital city

However, the likes of top ATP seeds such as Alexander Zverev, Alex de Minaur, Tommy Paul, and more have also entered the tournament and are more likely to win the title. Thus, with that being said, let’s take a look at the top three favourites to win the ATP Vienna Open 2024.

Title favourites at ATP Vienna Open 2024

3. Frances Tiafoe

American tennis star Frances Tiafoe has emerged as a huge workhorse when it comes to challenging the top seeds. Seeded fifth in the tournament, the 26-year-old is one of the favourites to win the title. However, he will face challenges from the likes of other top seeds, especially Alexander Zverev.

Before crossing paths with the German tennis star, Tiafoe would have to prove himself against compatriot Tommy Paul or Brandon Nakashima. Interestingly, Nakashima stunned Tiafoe in the first round of the 2024 Japan Open.

2. Lorenzo Musetti

Lorenzo Musetti displayed his potential at the Wimbledon Championships and the 2024 Paris Olympics. He reached the semifinals on both occasions, beating all the odds. Interestingly, on both occasions, he went down fighting against 24-time Grand Slam champion Novak Djokovic.

Musetti suffered a throbbing loss against David Goffin in the Shanghai Masters before he lost in the second round of the China Open to home hope Yunchaokete Bu. Nevertheless, the 22-year-old will be keen to perform better and he’s one of the favourites to win the title in the Austrian Capital.

1. Alexander Zverev

ATP World No. #3 Alexander Zverev hasn’t been in his best form lately. Seeded second at the 2024 Shanghai Masters, he suffered a surprising loss against Belgium’s David Goffin in straight sets. Additionally, he lost to American tennis star Taylor Fritz in the quarterfinals of the 2024 US Open.

Thus, hungry for titles, the German tennis star is headed towards Vienna, Austria, as the top seed. He’s likely to face Italy’s Lorenzo Musetti in the third round, and the winner of the match will become an even stronger candidate for the Vienna Open title. This year, the German tennis star holds a win-loss record of 60-19.
