The semi-final loss also ended Novak Djokovic’s run of six consecutive finals at the grass-court major.

Novak Djokovic suffered a one-sided thrashing at the hands of World No. 1 Jannik Sinner during the Wimbledon 2025 semi-finals, resulting in his third straight exit from the final four in major events.

Djokovic’s record against the Italian has turned from bad to worse. He failed to compete in their latest exchange.

Speaking to the media after the match at Wimbledon 2025, the 38-year-old admitted that age has finally caught up with him, revealing that his tank is “half empty”, which is never going to be enough for him to compete against the best player of the current generation.

With only one Grand Slam remaining in the 2025 calendar year, it remains to be seen how Djokovic approaches the rest of the season.

“I probably have to revisit everything and see with my team and family how I want to proceed with my schedule and where I want to peak and how I want to train. Try to do things. I don’t know what I can do differently, to be honest. Because the number of hours I spend daily to take care of myself”, said the 24-time Grand Slam champion.

Last year, the season was completely different, with Wimbledon being followed by the Paris Olympics. Djokovic, of course, went on to win the gold medal at the Games, and then directly played the US Open, skipping both ATP Masters 1000 events in between, including Canada and Cincinnati.

The Serbian hasn’t played in Toronto since 2016, when he went to claim the title for the fourth time. Meanwhile, the 24-time Grand Slam champion previously featured in Cincinnati two years back, when he went on to lift the title, bouncing back from his five-set loss at Wimbledon against Carlos Alcaraz just a few weeks ago.

However, it remains to be seen whether Djokovic plays in the Canadian Open this year, as he is currently on the entry list. However, after his recent defeat, Djokovic will likely prioritise the US Open and possibly play straight to Cincinnati, as he did in 2023.

At 38, Novak Djokovic continues to dominate and is currently ranked 6th despite missing several major tournaments. The Serbian is placed at #3 in the live race, behind only Alcaraz and Jannik Sinner, once again highlighting his longevity and brilliance.
