Carlos Alcaraz vs Denis Shapovalov live streaming, TV channel, where & how to watch: ATP Japan Open 2026
Carlos Alcaraz leads the head-to-head against Denis Shapovalov by 2-0
Defending champion Carlos Alcaraz plays Denis Shapovalov in the Japan Open 2026 quarter-finals. The top seed is chasing a rare feat, as no man has defended the Tokyo title since Pete Sampras in 1993-94. The winner will play Jaume Munar or Kyrian Jacquet for a place in the final.
Alcaraz has not played his best tennis this week, but he keeps finding a way. He beat Alex Michelsen 7-6(1), 4-6, 6-1 in his opener and then trailed Matteo Arnaldi 2-6 in the first-set tie-break. The Spaniard went on to save four set points to take the opening set, before cruising through the second set 6-1.
The World No. 3 is 7-1 since returning from a four-month injury layoff. Alcaraz has also made slow starts in both matches here, so a faster start will be key to a short day.

Shapovalov, the 46th-ranked left-hander, beat Sho Shimabukuro and Alejandro Tabilo to qualify for his 50th tour-level quarter-final. He had also reached the semi-finals in Chengdu last week.
Alcaraz holds the advantage on head-to-head, having won both their previous meetings without dropping a set. The Canadian hasn’t beaten a top-five player since beating Casper Ruud in Dallas in 2025. His hot-and-cold game can trouble anyone on a good day, but Alcaraz should get the job done in the end.
