Maria Sharapova completed her Career Grand Slam in 2012 by winning the French Open.

Former Russian tennis star Maria Sharapova recently visited the All England Lawn Tennis Club to meet the players and watch Wimbledon 2024 matches. However, July 3 is a memorable day for the five-time Grand Slam champion.

On July 3, 2004, 17-year-old Maria Sharapova defeated America’s Serena Williams to win her maiden Wimbledon title. With the win, Sharapova became the second youngest after Martina Hingis to win the grass court Grand Slam.

The former Russian tennis star was seeded 13th at the tournament. She defeated the likes of Lindsay Davenport, Ai Sugiyama, Daniela Hantuchova and others on her way to the final. In the final, she took down the two-time defending champion to win her first Grand Slam.

However, after 20 years of her Grand Slam triumph at the All England Lawn Tennis Club, the five-time Grand Slam champion returned to SW19. Sharapova sat in the Royal Box on Centre Court to watch matches at the 2024 Wimbledon Championships.

The official X (formerly Twitter) account of Wimbledon shared her picture. The caption read, “20 years to the day since her victory on Centre Court, @MariaSharapova watches on from the Royal Box. Wonderful to have you with us, Maria.”

Maria Sharapova also reacted to the post as she wrote, “Thank you for the best seat in the house!!’ The Russian tennis star established her name as one of the greatest in the 21st century. She’s also among the 10 female players to complete a Career Grand Slam.

However, she completed her Career Grand Slam at the 2012 French Open by defeating Italy’s Sara Errani. The former World No. 1 won her last Grand Slam title in 2014 at Stade Roland Garros.
