Rafael Nadal and Carlos Alcaraz were both 22 years, 1 month, and 3 days old when they won their fifth singles Grand Slam title.

After beating Jannik Sinner in the final of the French Open 2025, Carlos Alcaraz joined an elusive list of tennis players to win five Grand Slam titles in the Open Era. However, Alcaraz has not yet completed the Career Slam, as he has not won the Australian Open.

Similarly, he became one of the youngest players to reach the five-title peak. On that note, let’s take a look at the top five youngest men’s singles players to win five Grand Slam titles in the Open Era.

5. Boris Becker: 23 years, 2 months, and 2 days

The youngest-ever men’s singles champion at Wimbledon, Boris Becker, won his fifth Grand Slam title at the 1991 Australian Open. The former German tennis star achieved his greatest success on the grass courts of the All England Tennis Club.

He played seven Wimbledon finals in his professional career, losing four and winning three. Meanwhile, he never won the French Open; his best finishes came in 1987, 1989, and 1991, when he reached the semi-finals.

4. Pete Sampras: 22 years, 10 months, and 22 days

Pete Sampras, who never won the French Open, was quick and widely regarded as one of the best hard-court and grass players. Pistol Pete won his first Grand Slam title at the 1990 US Open. After two years, he won two more Major titles, the Wimbledon Championships and the US Open.

In 1994, Sampras won the Australian Open and Wimbledon, his fourth and fifth Grand Slams. Aged 22 years, 10 months, and 22 days, Pete Sampras became the youngest male American tennis star to win five singles Grand Slam titles.

3. Carlos Alcaraz: 22 years, 1 month, and 3 days

The only active player on the list, Carlos Alcaraz, beat Italian tennis star Jannik Sinner to win the 2025 French Open title. The 22-year-old successfully defended his title at Stade Roland Garros in a mouthwatering clash, where he completed a comeback after losing two initial sets. Alcaraz’s first title came in 2022, when he beat Casper Ruud to win the US Open.

Later, he defeated seven-time champion Novak Djokovic to win his first Wimbledon title in a five-set clash. In 2024, he completed the Channel Slam by winning the French Open and defending his crown at Wimbledon. This year, he defeated Jannik Sinner at Roland Garros and maintained a 100% win record in Grand Slam finals.

2. Rafael Nadal: 22 years, 1 month, and 3 days

Rafael Nadal and Carlos Alcaraz were both 22 years, 1 month, and 3 days old when they won their fifth singles Grand Slam title. However, unlike Alcaraz, Nadal’s fifth title came at the oldest tournament in tennis history, the Wimbledon Championships.

After winning four consecutive titles at Roland Garros between 2005 and 2008, the former Spanish star’s fifth title came when he defeated five-time defending champion and arch-rival Roger Federer in the final.

1. Bjorn Borg: 22 years and 5 days

The youngest player to win five men’s singles Grand Slam titles is Bjorn Borg. The Swede never faced an issue transitioning from clay to grass during the tour, completing three Channel Slams (the most by any player in history). However, he also faced trouble on the hard surface. Out of his 11 singles Grand Slam titles, not a single one has come on a hard court.

Borg won his first singles Major title at the 1974 French Open, where he beat Spain’s Manuel Orantes. He defended his title next season and then won two Wimbledon titles in 1976 and 1977.

Returning to the Parisian clay, the former Swedish tennis star stunned defending champion Guillermo Vilas in the final to win his fifth Grand Slam title, when he was only 22 years and 5 days old.
