Top five youngest men's singles players to win ATP 1000 title

Holger Rune and Carlos Alcaraz are the only active players on the list of the youngest to win the ATP 1000 singles title.
The term ‘prodigy’ is one of the most often used terms in sports. Rafael Nadal, Carlos Alcaraz, and many other stars have received the tag, and some have done justice to the adjective. A few started winning titles in their teens, while others waited until their 30s to gain the desired success.
In this article, we will discuss something similar about tennis prodigies. Thus, without further ado, let’s take a look at the top five youngest players to win the ATP 1000 singles titles.

5. Andrei Medvedev, 1994 Monte Carlo Masters: 19 years, 236 days
Andrei Medvedev had an unforgettable campaign at the Monte Carlo Masters in 1994. Seeded sixth, the former Ukrainian tennis star recorded a resounding success. He defeated Magnus Larsson, Bernd Karbachet, and Ctislav Doseděl in the three initial rounds.
However, a huge win for Andrei Medvedev came in the fourth round, when he stunned Jim Courier in a three-set thriller. After beating Yevgeny Kafelnikov in the last four, the former Ukrainian tennis star beat Spanish Sergi Bruguera to win the Monte Carlo Masters title.
4. Holger Rune, 2022 Paris Masters: 19 years, 191 days

Before suffering from back issues and other injury concerns, Holger Rune was seen as one of the brightest prospects on the tour. At the 2022 Paris Masters, he emerged victorious, winning his first and only 1000 title. He defeated Hubert Hurkacz and Andrey Rublev on his way to the quarterfinals.
In the Summit clash, he faced Serbian icon Novak Djokovic, whom he defeated 3-6, 6-3, 7-5 to win his maiden Masters title. Interestingly, the Danish tennis star was unseeded at the competition.
3. Carlos Alcaraz, 2022 Miami Open: 18 years, 333 days

All eyes were set on Carlos Alcaraz after he won the 2022 Miami Open. Seeded 14th, Alcaraz started his campaign with a win over Márton Fucsovics and later stunned Marin Cilic 6-4, 6-4 to reach the fourth round. The Spaniard then defeated Stefanos Tsitsipas and Miomir Kecmanović in the subsequent matches.
The Spaniard also stunned defending champion Hubert Hurkacz in the semifinals. In the final, he faced Norwegian tennis star Casper Ruud, who failed to put up a test against Alcaraz, losing 7–5, 6–4. Later in the year, he won his first Grand Slam title, stunning Ruud in four sets at Flushing Meadows.
2. Rafael Nadal, 2005 Monte Carlo Masters: 18 years, 318 days

The King of Clay, Rafael Nadal‘s name on the list, is no surprise. In 2005, when he won his first Monte Carlo Masters, he performed brilliantly in the first three rounds. Fourth seed Gastón Gaudio also failed to give against the Spaniard and lost 6-3, 6-0.
In the semifinals, Rafael Nadal stunned qualifier Richard Gasquet, who earned a spot in the last four by beating Roger Federer. The 22-time Grand Slam champion sealed the title by defeating Argentina’s Guillermo Coria 6–3, 6–1, 0–6, 7–5 in the final.
1. Michael Chang, 1990 Canadian Open: 18 years, 157 days
Michael Chang, the youngest male tennis player to win a Grand Slam, also tops the list. At the 1990 Canadian Open, the former American tennis star showcased his talent and won his first Masters title, stunning big names like Pete Sampras, Andre Agassi, and David Wheaton.
Except for the second round, where he faced qualifier Broderick Dyke, Chang went up against seeded players in all subsequent matches. Interestingly, all his opponents other than Dyke were Americans. Chang failed to win any other Grand Slam title after the 1989 Roland Garros but captured six more Masters accolades.
