Top five youngest men's singles players to reach Miami Open final

Jakub Mensik has overtaken Novak Djokovic, Roger Federer, and Jannik Sinner in the exclusive Miami Open list.

Carlos Alcaraz is the youngest player in the Miami Open‘s history to win the men’s singles final. However, he’s not the youngest to reach the final, and four-time champion Roger Federer is not in the top five list. Thus, without further ado, let’s take a look at the top five youngest men’s singles players to reach the Miami Open final.

5. Novak Djokovic: 19 years, 10 months, 10 Days

Novak Djokovic reached the final of the Miami Open for the first time in 2007, winning against Argentina’s Guillermo Cañas 6–3, 6–2, 6–4. At the time, he was only 19 years old and was seen as a bright prospect on the tour. Nevertheless, he went on to win six more titles at Key Biscayne. Djokovic holds the record for most Miami Open titles six, tied with Andre Agassi.

4. Jannik Sinner: 19 years, 7 months, 19 Days

Jannik Sinner lost to Poland’s Hubert Hurkacz in straight sets in the 2021 Miami Open final, but he became one of the youngest players to play in the summit clash. In 2023, he lost in the final at the same venue for the second time against Russia’s Daniil Medvedev.

However, his wait for the prestigious Masters title ended in 2024, when he defeated Grigor Dimitrov 6-3, 6-1 to win his maiden title at the Miami Gardens. After playing his first final at Miami Gardens, it took Sinner three years to win the Masters event.

3. Jakub Mensik: 19 years, 6 months, 29 Days

The latest name on the list, Jakub Mensik, became the third youngest player to reach the Miami Open final. The 19-year-old created history at Miami Gardens and enjoyed an unforgettable campaign with wins over Novak Djokovic, Taylor Fritz, Jack Draper, and more.

After Ivan Lendl in 1989, Menšík became the first Czech international to win the Miami Open title. In the 35 years (between 1990 and 2024), Tomáš Berdych once reached the final of the tournament in 2010 but ended up on the side as Andy Roddick captured his second title.

2. Carlos Alcaraz: 18 years, 9 months, 29 Days

Carlos Alcaraz became the youngest player to win the men’s singles Miami Open title in 2022 after he defeated Casper Ruud in straight sets. However, he failed to become the youngest player to reach the final at Miami Gardens by less than a month.

Interestingly, Carlos Alcaraz is also the first Spanish tennis player to win the title. Sergi Bruguera, Carlos Moya, David Ferrer, and Rafael Nadal have reached the final of the Miami Open (a combined number of eight times) but have failed to convert the opportunity.

1. Rafael Nadal: 18 years, 9 months

Rafael Nadal became the youngest player to reach the men’s singles final in 2005 when he faced Swiss maestro Roger Federer. However, the King of Clay was unlucky in Miami. Nadal played in five finals of Masters events between 2005 and 2017.

Unfortunately, he failed to win even once. He came up short twice against his ‘Big 3’ rivals, Roger Federer and Novak Djokovic, and once against Nikolay Davydenko. Nadal is one of the four Spanish tennis players who reached the final in Miami but failed to win a title.
