A total of 13 Indians are scheduled to participate.

The Indian wrestling team is all set to make its mark in the upcoming Zagreb Open 2024 Ranking series, the first world ranking tournament scheduled to be held in the Croatian capital of Zagreb from January 10th to 14th. The announcement was made by Bhupinder Singh Bajwa, Chairman of the Ad Hoc Committee appointed by the Indian Olympic Association (IOA) to oversee the day-to-day conduct of wrestling affairs in the country.

In a significant development, the Ministry of External Affairs has intervened to ensure that the 25-member Indian contingent completes their visa formalities on Wednesday, January 3rd. The team had been facing difficulties in securing a visa appointment, but the timely intervention by the Ministry has smoothened the process, according to an official release.

The Union Sports Ministry had last month instructed the IOA to form an ad-hoc committee to manage and control the affairs of the Wrestling Federation of India (WFI). The Ad hoc committee is tasked with overseeing and supervising WFI’s operations, which include athlete selection, submitting entries for athletes to participate in international events, organizing sports activities and other related responsibilities.

The Croatian Wrestling Federation Secretary-General, Tin Bregovic, extended an invitation to 13 wrestlers, nine coaching and support staffs and three referees.
