Antim Panghal returns to action after long layoff.
The last Wrestling Ranking Series tournament of the year is scheduled for June 6-9 in Budapest, Hungary, attracting some of the world’s top wrestlers.
Budapest Ranking Series 2024 for India will be spearheaded by Antim Panghal, the 53kg wrestler who will be making her return to competition after an eight-month hiatus. Panghal, a bronze medallist at the world championships, has not participated in any domestic or international events since winning bronze at the Hangzhou Asian Games last October.
She withdrew from the selection trials in March and the Asian Championships in April. With the Paris Olympics just two months away, Antim will be eager to prove her form and fitness in the Hungarian capital.
Antim made history by becoming the first Indian wrestler to secure an Olympic quota at the world championships last September. The berth is allocated to the country rather than the individual athlete.
Joining Antim in the tournament are fellow Olympic quota holders Vinesh Phogat, Anshu Malik, Nisha Dahiya, Reetika Hooda, and Aman Sehrawat. These wrestlers earned their spots in the recently concluded Asian Qualifiers and World Olympic Qualifiers.
The Ranking Series tournament in Budapest serves as a crucial opportunity for the Indian wrestlers to assess their preparedness and fine-tune their skills ahead of the Paris Olympics.
